Job Title: Quality Control Manager - Structural Steel
Location: North Houston, Texas
Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Quality Control Manager with expertise in structural steel to join our team in Houston, Texas.
This role is hands-on, requiring active involvement in both the fabrication shop and on construction job sites. The Quality Control Manager will lead a small team to ensure that all structural steel components and assemblies meet industry standards, project specifications, and company quality requirements. The ideal candidate will hold a Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) or Senior Certified Welding Inspector (SCWI) certification and have a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee Quality Control: Lead the QC team in monitoring and inspecting the fabrication and erection of structural steel components to ensure compliance with specifications, codes, and client requirements.
- Manage Inspection Process: Perform hands-on inspections of welding, bolting, and general steel assembly in the shop and at job sites, ensuring adherence to AWS, AISC, and other relevant standards.
- Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate records of inspections, testing, and certifications, and generate detailed reports for internal use and client review.
- Develop & Implement QC Procedures: Create and enforce quality control procedures to ensure consistent performance and adherence to project specifications.
- Team Management: Lead, train, and mentor the quality control team, fostering a culture of high standards and continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with Project Teams: Work closely with project managers, engineers, and shop foremen to ensure all quality requirements are integrated into the project workflow.
- Non-Conformance Management: Identify, document, and resolve any non-conformances, working with internal and external teams to implement corrective actions.
- Client & Inspector Coordination: Serve as the main point of contact for third-party inspectors and clients, addressing concerns and facilitating inspections.
- Safety & Compliance: Ensure that all QC activities adhere to safety regulations and quality standards.
Qualifications:
- CWI or SCWI Certification: Must hold a current Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) or Senior Certified Welding Inspector (SCWI) certification.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in quality control within the structural steel or commercial construction industries.
- Technical Knowledge: In-depth understanding of AWS codes, AISC standards, and other relevant industry standards.
- Leadership Skills: Demonstrated experience managing a small team and working collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
- Hands-On Approach: Comfortable working in both shop and field environments, performing inspections and ensuring quality standards are met.
- Attention to Detail: Strong analytical skills and keen attention to detail in identifying and resolving quality issues.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, detailed reports and interact professionally with clients and inspectors.
Preferred Qualifications:
- OSHA Certification: Familiarity with OSHA safety regulations and procedures.
- Experience in North Houston Projects: Local experience with knowledge of the Houston construction market.
