Brunel is currently searching for Sr Mine Engineer for direct hire with our mining client about an hour East of Tucson, Arizona.
This position is instrumental in developing, updating and implementing short-term and long-term mine plans at our client’s new mining operation. The ideal candidate will ensure the safe, efficient and cost controlled execution of the mine plans through the oversight, contribution to and delivery of timely mine planning and scheduling outputs. Establish systems, standards and processes to support delivery of best practice mine planning, scheduling and technical support of mining operations.
Some of the Key Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the Mine Engineering group including the Engineering and Survey teams.
- Lead by example – Seek opportunities to systematically support efforts in leading and improving safety in all areas of the operation.
- Develop, establish and train Engineering and Survey team policies and procedures.
- Control costs with respect to Mine Engineering and Survey and maximize efficiencies by implementing approved recommendations.
- Preparation of Long, Mid and Short-term designs and schedules. Ensure that schedules are aligned with monthly and quarterly forecasts and the Annual operating plans.
- Monitor, track and report operational execution against mine plans. Highlight deviations to the plan and identify opportunities to catch up or exceed the plan.
- Manage the Survey team including the timely design and in-pit layout of blast holes and ore blocks and survey of pit and leach pad progress.
- Manage and oversee all contractors’ activities related to the Mine Engineering and Survey teams.
- Support cross functional communication with Geology, Permitting, Metallurgy, and Operations teams.
- Prepare daily, weekly and monthly production reports.
Qualifications:
- BS in Mine Engineering or similar.
- Experience in Mine Engineering, with at least 3 of years in an open pit Mine Engineering supervisory position.
- Excellent understanding of open pit mine planning and optimization.
- Strong leadership abilities in a fast-paced mining situation.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate, both orally and written, mine plans to all levels of the organization from Mine Management to site employees.
- Demonstrated ability to critically analyze longer term designs and schedules and recommend improvements to maximize operational safety and efficiency.
- Demonstrated ability to consider short, and long-term consequences of proposed changes to mine plans.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team effort as well as individually.
- Excellent working knowledge of software such as ACAD, Vulcan, Minesite or equivalent software. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to establish credibility and be decisive, but able to recognize and support organization's priorities and preferences.
- Must be eligible to work in the U.S.
- Must be fluent in English.
