Job Objective:
The Account Manager will be responsible for managing both reactive (responding to customer needs) and proactive (strategically growing relationships) accounts within the Boston academic and hospital sectors. The role involves ensuring customer satisfaction by providing timely technical and sales support, while also developing long-term strategic plans for key accounts. This position requires building strong relationships with customers, especially key opinion leaders (KOLs), and working closely with internal teams to develop pricing strategies and support marketing initiatives. Additionally, the role includes contributing to branch-specific projects, mentoring colleagues, and continuously improving sales techniques and knowledge.
Core Responsibilities:
- Focus on a select portfolio of major academic institutions and hospitals in the Boston area, identifying and cultivating relationships with Principal Investigators (PIs), lab directors, and research administrators.
- Develop in-depth knowledge of each account’s research focus, funding sources, and pain points, enabling you to offer custom solutions that align with their goals.
- Engage with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) and develop strong relationships to become a trusted partner in advancing their research.
- Provide technical consultation to customers who require immediate assistance with troubleshooting or optimizing the use of molecular biology, genomics, or proteomics products.
- Respond to inquiries swiftly, offering product solutions and ensuring a high level of service to maintain trust and repeat business.
- Leverage your technical knowledge to recommend tailored products and services that meet the specific research needs of your accounts, particularly in molecular biology, cell biology, and genomic sequencing applications.
- Stay updated on the latest advancements in genomics and proteomics to offer cutting-edge solutions, including new product launches or special access programs.
- Differentiate the company’s products by demonstrating deep scientific expertise, providing hands-on training, and educating customers on the specific benefits of these solutions over competitor offerings.
- Work closely with procurement departments and research heads to negotiate long-term contracts, including volume discounts, stockroom programs, and research-specific consignment agreements.
- Develop account-specific pricing strategies in collaboration with your regional manager, focusing on maximizing profitability while delivering value to your customers.
- Collaborate closely with product managers, field scientists, and technical support teams to ensure the seamless implementation of customer strategies.
- Participate in field marketing activities such as customer workshops, focus groups, and beta testing programs to collect feedback and refine product offerings.
Key Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Life Sciences, Molecular Biology, Genomics, or a related field is required. Ph.D. preferred.
- At least 4 years of sales experience within the life sciences industry, preferably working with academic institutions, hospitals, or research labs.
- Demonstrated experience with molecular biology techniques, genomics workflows, or proteomics applications, either from a technical sales or bench research background.
- Strong relationship management skills, particularly with research-intensive institutions and high-level decision-makers.
- Proven ability to develop and execute complex account strategies, including pricing, negotiation, and contract management.
- Familiarity with CRM tools, Microsoft Office Suite, and relevant data analytics platforms.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills with a focus on conveying complex scientific concepts to diverse audiences.
