Role Description
This is a full-time hybrid role for an Electrical Systems Engineer. The Electrical Systems Engineer will be responsible for systems design, electrical design, and engineering tasks. In this role, you will be pivotal in the integration of electrical systems, from prototype to production. You will be responsible for designing, prototyping, and testing systems, ensuring they meet technical requirements and specifications. This is a hands-on position where you’ll collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to bring cutting-edge products to market. While the role is primarily based in Austin, TX, there is flexibility for some remote work.
Core Responsibilities:
- Contribute to product level integrations from prototype through to production
- Define technical requirements and specifications for product systems and components
- Design architecture for systems including power and communication topologies, control schemes, and failure modes & responses
- Design and prototype electrical systems, such as low and high voltage battery packs, power distribution, and related integrations
- Perform hands-on wiring, testing, and debugging of both high and low voltage systems
- Collaborate with design, mechanical and manufacturing teams to bring products to market
- Work with internal teams and external suppliers on component design, testing, and evaluation
Basic Qualifications:
- Strong foundation in electrical engineering and electrical fundamentals
- Experience with design and fabrication in production environments
- Hands-on experience in hardware development and troubleshooting
- Experience with automotive communication protocols (CAN, LIN, Ethernet, etc.)
Bonus Qualifications:
- Familiarity with tools such as MATLAB, Simulink, LTSPICE, and other specialized software
- Knowledge of marine or automotive ISO or IEC standards
- Experience with harness design processes, including CAD routing, schematic & formboard creation, and manufacturability improvements
- PCB design experience, including schematic capture and layout tools
- Familiarity with firmware development for unit testing and integration
- Experience with Design Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (DFMEA)
- Strong decision-making abilities, with the capability to articulate and defend engineering decisions
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong time management and organizational skills
