Job Title: Network Architect
Reports to: Senior Manager Telecommunications Engineering
Reporting Office to Augusta Service Building, Augusta Maine
The base salary range for this position is dependent upon experience and location, ranging from $76,186.40- $104,756
Technical resource responsible for performing enterprise network telecommunication planning, engineering, and the creation of required documentation to implement enterprise systems. Provides level 2 or 3 network support on an after-hours on-call basis when required. Leads the completion of assigned telecommunication engineering projects within budgetary and scheduling guidelines.
Responsibilities
1. Plans, evaluates, and implements existing network systems and makes recommendations for resources required to maintain and /or expand service levels.
2. Responds to general technical network facility hardware and software problems utilizing a variety of hardware and software testing tools.
3. Responds to requests for voice and data communications connectivity that are related to moves, adds, and changes within the customer community.
4. Assists in the analysis, scheduling, acquisition, implementation, and documentation of telecommunications hardware, software, and facilities for assigned projects.
5. Helps develop technical standards and interface applications.

Skills and Requirements
Technical Skills/Competencies
• Theoretical Engineering knowledge: Planning, Operations and Engineering Design, Analytics, Modeling & Calculation (e.g., sym. Components, per unit, etc.), Understanding the Business Model
• Practical Engineering Experience/Application: Planning, Operations and Engineering Design, Construction, (e.g., field experience, standardization, develop business case and defend in front of stakeholders)
• Engineering documentation: Ability to adequately document and interpret engineering documentation, review, and approve engineering work done by others
• Knowledge of Regulatory and Compliance Environment: Local, State and Federal Regulatory Standards and Requirements (NERC, NPCC, ISO, PUC, etc.)
• Networking, Computer Security, and Databases - Understanding Networking, security, computer hardware, software applications, database structure, and data communication equipment.
Functional/job/business specific Competencies:
• General proficiency in several areas of SONET, Transmission, Signaling, Traffic Analysis, System Security, Local and Long distance Carriers, LATA, Tariffs, and Billing Procedures.
• Understanding of data communications concepts including: Network Topologies, Protocols, and LAN/WAN Integration (TCP/IP networks and PC/Server technologies). General knowledge of wireless technologies.
• General proficiency in several areas of site telecommunications infrastructure including: Cable Types, Cabling Standards, Cabinet andRack Layout, Distributing Frame Design, Terminations, Power Conditioningand UPS, Rectifier and Battery Systems
• Works with Network Management Center to develop StandardOperating Procedures and serves as escalation point complex issues.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Demonstrated experience in the design and implementation of network solutions.
• Demonstrated experience in complex problem analysis.
• Demonstrated project management experience
• Experience in project management, and network technologies
Education & Experience Required:
Requires a 4-year degree in a technical field, and minimum 3-5 years
relevant experience working in a Telecom Network Architect /planning role or 10+ years of Telecom Network Architect experience, with equivalent experience demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education.
