What to Expect
A client of Insight Global is looking for a Specialist - Rotating Equipment Engineer, to be involved in building processing facilities. The successful candidate will interface with project and process design teams for rotating equipment design, vendor selection, drawing reviews, technical standard and specification development, FATs and commissioning activities to enable a successful handover of machinery to Operations.
What You’ll Do
- Serve as subject matter expert for rotating equipment engineering during the design, equipment selection, fabrication & testing phases of the project; and provide support during construction and commissioning as required.
- Develop design specifications and installation standards for all types of rotating equipment in project.
- Spec out centrifugal pumps (slurry and non-slurry), positive displacement pumps, compressors, agitators, fans, blowers, turbines, centrifuges, gearboxes, rotary calcination equipment, etc. for procurement and perform vendor bid evaluations.
- Familiar with material handling equipment including belt conveyors, bucket elevators, apron feeders, screw conveyors, stacker / reclaimers, ball mill, etc.
- Experience in implementing and designing to the following standards; API 610, API 686, API 673, API 674, ISO 9905, ISO 2858, ISO 3661, ISO 16330, ANSI B73.1 and others.
- Complete design, HAZOP, 3D model reviews and provide support to P&ID development.
- Ensure rotating equipment boundaries are well defined to include required auxiliaries including filter system, lube oil / seal oil systems, etc.
- Support in the selection of equipment health monitoring systems for condition monitoring and provide input to development of I&C logic to maintain high equipment reliability.
- Participate in project technical reviews and work with other discipline engineers to ensure that all equipment requirements are clearly defined and covered.
- Develop rotating equipment datasheets, specifications, material requisitions and support technical bid evaluations and ITP development.
- Support FAT and pre-commissioning activities of equipment and subsystems, including validation of initial run-in performance prior to process commissioning.
- Review and approve vendor calculation packages against applicable codes, standards, contract documents and design basis.
- Provide timely technical support throughout the project construction and commissioning phases retaining overall technical responsibility for equipment
- Support successful commissioning, start-up and handover of machinery equipment to Operations and Maintenance teams including vendor documents, procedures, troubleshooting guidelines, recommended spare parts lists, etc.
- Support in the development of a preservation program for rotating equipment for storage at shop and site.
- Communicate complex technical issues and recommend solutions to project management.
Skillset
- Self-motivated team player with an inclusive nature and natural curiosity.
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- Professional Engineering (PE) license is a plus.
- Experienced (10+ years) in overall rotating equipment design and selection, preferably with EPC background and oil/mineral refining industry experience.
- Understand mechanical seal and bearings design and selection, foundation components (sole plates, base plates, grouting), and pump/driver selection and installation.
- Deep knowledge with relevant API, ANSI, and ISO standards and reliability best practices.
- Experience with design and modeling software such as Autodesk (AutoCAD, Plant 3D), Navisworks, ANSYS, Inventor and/or Solidworks, Nastran, etc.
- Strong understanding of engineering principles and design calculations, with excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
- An understanding of capital project execution methodologies.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines
- Effective communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
