Job Title: Tool Design Engineer Department: Engineering
Reports To: Tool Engineering Manager
Duties and Responsibilities: Designs single or multiple station tools such as form and trim dies, fixtures and gages by performing the following duties:
· Studies specifications, engineering blueprints, tool orders, and manufacturing data and confers with engineering and manufacturing personnel to resolve design problems related to material characteristics, dimensional tolerances, manufacturing processes and equipment in a cost effective manner.
· Applies algebraic and geometric formulas and standard tool engineering concepts to develop tool configurations.
· Utilizes standard vendor supplied tooling components in tool designs.
Education and Experience: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
· Bachelor’s degree from four-year college/university or certified journeyman tool maker.
· Must have at least five years of hands-on tooling experience; sheet metal fabrication experience a plus.
· Ability to read blueprints and interpret work instructions and procedure manuals.
· Computer skills should include proficiency with Solidworks or similar CAD software and MS Office products.
· Ability to work with mathematical concepts, fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
· Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
· Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
· Ability to efficiently work on multiple projects simultaneously.

- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Manual dexterity to handle small delicate parts and hand held standard measuring equipment at the same time.
