Position: LOA Benefits Specialist (Contract)

This position is responsible for performing a variety of complex and technical duties in the administration of the University’s Employee Benefits Program.
The Benefits Specialist maintains frequent contact with employees, retirees, payroll and human resources personnel, benefits carriers and third-party administrators.
This is a 3-month contract position offering $27-28/hour depending on experience and is fully onsite in office.
Required Qualifications
- Associate degree.
- FMLA experience.
- Two to four (2-4) years of HR, general administration and/or benefits experience.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office with emphasis on Excel.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree.
- Two to four (2-4) years of experience in a higher education setting.
- Experience with Banner HRIS.
- Knowledge of regulations such as: ERISA, HIPAA, COBRA, FLSA, FMLA, Medicare.
Essential Functions
- Assists with the day-to-day administration of the benefits programs including medical, dental, vision, life, disability, tuition waiver and retirement.
- Assists employees and retirees with benefit related matters, arranges and conducts information presentations including new hire benefits orientation, coordinates open enrollment activities and other benefits related events.
- Provides information and guidance to help employees strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the University’s benefits and retirement plans and programs.
- Administers all benefit plans according to the applicable policies, plan documents and regulatory requirements.
- Processes benefit enrollments, changes and terminations timely including new hire enrollment elections, qualifying life event changes, and other changes that may occur outside of the annual open enrollment period.
- Processes and coordinates payroll deductions timely and makes corrections and adjustments as necessary.
- Ensures the accuracy of all benefits enrollments in the HRIS to provide vendors with correct eligibility and coverage information.
- Reviews carrier reports, enrollment records and payroll deductions to identify and resolve discrepancies.
