Lawyers on Demand has an immediate opportunity for a Legal Aid Attorney to work with a respected legal services organization to achieve their mission of providing access to justice in Maryland courts. This is a full-time, 3-6 month assignment to support the organization while an attorney is on leave. This role could extend or transition into a full-time position, and this is an excellent opportunity to shortlist oneself for future full-time opportunities at the organization.
The Legal Aid Attorney’s main duties will be to assist individuals with a range of civil legal matters, including landlord-tenant disputes; consumer matters such as debt collection and credit card cases; child support; and criminal record expungements to remove barriers to obtaining housing, employment, and child custody. Work will be performed on-site at the organization’s Help Center at the Rockville District Court in Montgomery County. Pay for this non-profit work will be $35/hr.
This is a particularly excellent opportunity for an e-discovery attorney or junior lawyer who is looking to make the transition into public interest work.

Requirements:
- Experience providing legal advice on the civil legal matters noted above, specifically landlord-tenant matters
- Experience with depositions, preparing for trial, drafting pleadings and motions, and completing court forms, filings, and other documents
- Legal research and writing
- Knowledge of Maryland District Court cases
- Interest in legal services and pro bono work, including representing individual clients
