Job Purpose:
The purpose of this position is to provide service to insureds by analyzing, evaluating and managing claims, bringing the cases to a timely and reasonable resolution by maintaining compliance with the claims philosophy and guidelines. Also providing assistance to the Claim Manager and serving as a resource for others in the unit.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
· Establish and maintain contact with insureds, claimants, witnesses, and experts, to gather facts.
· Attend and participate in initial interviews, depositions, mediations and pretrials as needed.
· Work with defense counsel to plan and execute defense strategy.
· Evaluate liability and damages on individual claims through the establishment of injury estimates for settlement authority.
· Provide documentation to file and update Infinity notes with statuses, claims information and activity.
· Provide timely and thorough Loss Advices in order to update the reinsurers.
· Timely prepare and submit cases through the PRC process.
· Approve legal and expense invoices.
· Input and maintain data fields within Infinity.
· Assist Claim Manager with training and development of other staff members, conduct file reviews and other managerial duties as necessary.
Education and Skills Preferred:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
- Must have a thorough understanding of legal processes, rules of discovery and the various theories of recovery in the tort system, as well as an understanding of insurance coverage issues.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills with professional service-oriented demeanor.
- Two to three years’ experience in medical malpractice claims handling.
