Position Overview:
A prominent commercial bank based in Texas is seeking an Assistant General Counsel to join their growing legal teal. This individual will be responsible for providing legal support and advice on regulatory matters related to consumer protection laws, including the Truth in Lending Act (TILA), Equal Credit Opportunity Act (ECOA), Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), and Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA). This role requires a deep understanding of consumer banking regulations and the ability to navigate complex legal challenges within the banking industry.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide expert legal counsel on consumer protection regulations, including TILA, ECOA, FCRA, FDCPA, and other related laws.
- Advise on compliance with federal and state consumer protection laws, ensuring the bank's practices align with regulatory requirements.
- Assist in the development and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure compliance with consumer protection regulations.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including compliance, risk management, and business units, to provide strategic legal guidance.
- Monitor and analyze regulatory changes that may impact the bank’s consumer lending and collection practices.
- Manage and oversee outside counsel on consumer regulatory matters.
- Prepare and review legal documents related to consumer compliance, including disclosures, contracts, and regulatory filings.
- Participate in regulatory examinations and respond to inquiries from regulatory agencies.
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
- Admission to the bar in at least one U.S. state.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience with consumer protection regulations (e.g., TILA, ECOA, FCRA, FDCPA) within the banking industry, either at a law firm or in-house.
- Strong knowledge of federal and state consumer banking laws and regulations.
- Proven ability to manage complex legal issues and provide practical, business-oriented legal advice.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
