The Board Engagement Manager plays a critical role in the life of Boston Ballet and is responsible for the programmatic management of the organization's five volunteer boards: Board of Trustees, Board of Advisors, Trustee Emeriti, Young Partners Council, and Boston Ballet Volunteer Association. Reporting to the Chief Development Officer and with collaborative oversight from the Executive Director, the Board Engagement Manager partners closely with senior staff and volunteer leadership to strategically build thriving boards that align with Boston Ballet's vision and values.
To motivate volunteer board leaders to contribute to the Ballet's top priorities, a successful candidate will have a high-level executive communication style, the ability to create crisp and engaging board materials, excellent project management skills, and a strong relationship-building and growth mindset.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Governance and administration
- End-to-end ownership of board and committee meetings for Boston Ballet's five volunteer boards, including setting agendas and prepping board chairs, creating and distributing materials, sending meeting reminders, room/Zoom setup, handling meeting logistics and catering, etc.
- Expertise in the Ballet's bylaws and tracking board member term limits and governance activity, i.e. committee membership, officer positions, etc.
- Manage the Board of Trustee committees led by the Chief Development Officer, specifically Trusteeship, Development, and Campaign Cabinet
- Lead the organization and execution of the Annual Meeting with colleagues across the organization
Recruitment and pipeline development
- Ownership of board recruitment efforts and pipeline management, especially the Board of Trustee growth goals
- Partner with Development colleagues on board recruitment efforts to prioritize and drive successful elections of top candidates
- Coordinate board recruitment activity, including pipeline management and action step tracking in Tessitura
- Support leadership in leveraging their networks to engage prospects and community partners in the Ballet's work, i.e. invitations to events and performances, greeting in the theater, etc.
Board culture and community
- Recommend and lead social opportunities that increase board member engagement, and connection to one another and the organization, such as peer-hosted dinners and holiday parties
- Ensure strong onboarding for board members, and develop and execute a mentorship program for first-year Trustees and Advisors
- Manage the board communications calendar in partnership with the Executive Office
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent
- Minimum of 5 years of professional experience, with a proven track record of strong organizational skills, constituent relations experience, and superior professionalism and judgment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Precision, attention to detail, and strong sense of ownership
- Flexibility; ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities
- Ability to represent Boston Ballet with warmth and professionalism to multiple constituencies, including staff, donors, and board members
- Experience handling confidential or sensitive information with discretion
- Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook and Word; facility with Excel, PowerPoint, and Tessitura
- Enjoyment of (or curiosity for) the performing arts/entertainment business
- Positive attitude, sense of humor, and proactive willingness to add value
