MOTOR GRADER OPERATOR
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsible for preparing the roadways surface for the placement of asphalt or concrete paving. To accomplish this, he operates a motor grader himself as well as supervising two operators who operate a front-end loader and a vibratory roller. Grade Checker duties also include the following:
- Understand and read specifications, such as blueprints, to determine construction requirements.
- Supervise, coordinate, or schedule the activities of workers.
- Confer with supervisor, managerial or technical personnel, other departments, or contractors to resolve problems or to coordinate activities.
- Coordinate work activities with other construction project activities.
- Order or requisition materials or supplies.
- Locate, measure, and mark site locations or placement of structures or equipment, using measuring and marking equipment.
- Record information such as personnel, production, or operational data on specified forms or reports in electronic format.
- Assign work to employees, based on material or worker requirements of specific jobs.
- Implement and enforce safety requirements for the job.
- Required to drive motor vehicle in performance of duties.
- Ability to walk long distances in rough or variable terrain.
- Work in extreme hot or cold environments.
- Must be able to understand and follow safety considerations herein and as applies to the activity involved.
- Ability to use level, grade rods and determine accuracy of roadway slope and grade.
- Understand roadway profiles and cross slopes.
