Position Overview
We are looking for a Senior SMT Process Engineer to join our dynamic team. This position will concentrate on the Surface Mount Technology (SMT) production process, which entails the accurate placement of components on printed circuit boards (PCBs). The ideal candidate will initially work as an engineer but may have the opportunity to advance into a managerial role, leading a team of approximately forty employees as the position evolves.
Key Responsibilities
- Program and operate all SMT equipment, including solder paste screen printers and pick-and-place machines, ensuring compliance with IPC standards and performing inspections using SPI, AOI, and x-ray equipment.
- Perform root cause analysis on significant defects and implement effective corrective and preventive measures.
- Develop, maintain, and validate thermal profiles for SMT ovens for both new and existing products.
- Drive continuous manufacturability improvements by applying Six Sigma and other problem-solving methodologies within a manufacturing setting.
- Work closely with electrical and mechanical engineering teams to conduct "Design for Manufacturability" (DFM) and "Design for Assembly" (DFA) reviews for new and existing products.
- Oversee manufacturing assembly lines, which include product assembly, functional testing, and final inspections.
- Analyze SMT process yields to ensure capabilities and throughput, providing constructive suggestions for enhancements.
- Manage quality inspection processes for PCBs and functional testing.
- Develop and maintain metrics to monitor trends in production performance.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering is required.
- A minimum of 7 years of experience with Surface Mount Technology (SMT) and manufacturing processes is preferred.
- Experience with both leaded and non-leaded production processes.
- Comprehensive knowledge of SMT components, boards, and assembly equipment.
- Management experience is a valuable asset but not a strict requirement; the candidate should be open to transitioning into a management role.
