Position Overview
We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Food Safety and Quality Assurance Specialist to support our Supplier Compliance program. The ideal candidate will assist product supplier and processor/manufacturer compliance initiatives, ensuring adherence to applicable regulations and AFCFC’s standards. This role involves handling a high volume of documentation for incoming and existing suppliers and ingredients.
Key Responsibilities
- Review vendor documents such as supplier questionnaires, product specification sheets, letter of guarantees, certifications, HACCP plans, environmental monitoring programs, and third-party audits.
- Support the collection and management of documents for incoming and existing suppliers and ingredients, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Collaborate with internal teams on retail label reviews for new product launches and existing products.
- Review product labels to ensure compliance with FDA and CFIA regulations and verify the accuracy of ingredient and allergen statements with regards to formulation and ingredient specifications.
- Prioritize a high volume of documentation with an emphasis on organization, strong sense of urgency, and attention to detail.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records in compliance with company standards.
- Support risk assessments and verification activities for suppliers, raw materials, and packaging.
- Assist with developing supplier compliance programs, including supplier audits and reviewing food packaging, food equipment and utensils, and third-party storage and distribution centers to meet regulatory and company standards.
- Collaborate with internal teams on product launches, providing FSQA support to ensure new products meet safety and quality standards from concept through commercialization.
- Support ingredient studies, including shelf-life, challenge studies, microbial/chemical verifications, etc.
- Conduct impact analyses of ingredients and products to assess regulatory changes and determine market suitability.
- Maintain social responsibility and sustainability documentation, including Global Seafood Sustainability Initiative documents, in accordance with AFCFC and client standards.
- Identify areas of non-compliance and recommend corrective actions.
- Stay current with applicable regulations, science, and company standards.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned to support the FSQA team and company objectives.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Nutrition, Biology, or a related field.
- Minimum of 1 year of work experience, or an equivalent combination of relevant coursework and experience in food safety, quality assurance, nutrition, pharmaceuticals, or related fields.
- Knowledge of food safety, quality assurance, and food regulatory and label compliance.
- Preferred Credentials: PCQI, HACCP, Seafood HACCP, FSVP.
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365 products and relevant software.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to work in a dynamic and collaborative environment.
- Ability to travel up to 10%.
Physical Demands:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
Schedule: M-F 8:00am-5:00pm
