Job Summary:
A Materials Engineer plays an important role with ABC teams by leading or supporting material development projects. You will make technical contributions to projects focused on TPO development as well as Green Sustainable products. You will also bring strong data analysis and problem-solving skills and possess critical and conceptual thinking abilities. Working closely with senior team members, you will bring excellent interpersonal and communications skills, the ability to build relationships across multi-disciplinary teams and manage multiple projects and priorities independently.
Job Responsibilities:
- Applying your knowledge of materials science to support development of materials for Automotive applications specifically targeting TPO with focus on low temperature ductility and high stiffness.
- Will also support on new automotive endeavors in support of Environment targets (i.e. - SDG, Carbon Neutral) with focus on biofiber filled/reinforced plastics.
- Provide technical guidance on materials and processes (compounding, injection and blow moulding)
- Develop new innovative marketable products and revise/reformulate existing formulations.
- Lead or support development of advanced materials and manufacturing processes.
- Lead or support material testing programs in a test lab environment and/or work with external testing labs.
- Interface with customers, business units and possibly universities and national labs for collaborative development programs to develop advanced materials.
- Collaborate with Automotive materials teams to understand current demands and work to develop and attain OEM customer approvals.
- Participate or lead large multi-discipline groups or teams to accomplish desired business goals centering around the ABC Centre of Excellence vision.
- Engage in R&D to explore new materials and technologies that could improve the performance, safety, or cost-effectiveness of automotive parts. Stay updated with advancements in material science and incorporate new findings into the production process. Develop new innovative marketable products and revise/reformulate existing formulations.
- Ensure that materials and processes comply with relevant industry standards and regulations. Maintain detailed documentation of material properties, testing results, and process changes.
Job Qualifications:
- Education: PhD in Materials Science Engineering or related engineering discipline or similar years in experience.
- Practical Experience with Automotive TPO development; processing, compounding, failure modes and their end use products.
- Experience with Automotive Green Endeavors and links to their material development.
- Leadership Skills: Demonstrated ability to work independently, lead projects, and collaborate within teams.
- Technical Skills: Knowledge with automotive plastics compounding and the unique interactions when working with base polymers, fillers, and impact modifiers.
- Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to analyze and address material-related issues effectively.
- Communication Skills: Ability to communicate findings and recommendations to other engineers and stakeholders clearly and effectively.
