Job Description:
The client is seeking an IT professional to provide network cabling services for the department which at times, requires statewide travel, occasionally overnight to perform cabling work. The selected candidate as part of the Network Support Team will design, implement and perform network/voice cabling to include engineering and deployment of new data and voice networks for the client networks; will work with vendors to develop and implement solutions; will develop policies and guidelines related to all aspects of network systems based on telecommunications standards and best practices; review and update policies and guidelines; troubleshoot major network failures; analyze networks for capacity and errors; manage vendor relationships and telecommunications support agreements and validate network billings. The selected candidate will also design, direct, review and validate agency-wide cabling improvements and changes; research technology trends for network support area; and assess and implement telecommunications technologies for applicability to client. Experience in network engineering to include analysis of network requirements and performance for a large scale network. Experience in data and telecommunications to include installing, testing and inspecting deployed communications systems. Experience installing, migrating, and supporting critical, multi-site networks. Proficiency using MS Teams, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. CompTIA Networking + is preferred but not required. Working knowledge with WWAN, CradlePoint / NetCloud preferred. Coordination and interaction with multiple vendors for problem resolution and diagnosing networking issues. The candidate should also have working knowledge of the following networking tools; Fluke Versiv with light meter, netAlly AirCheck G3, netAlly nXG, iperf3, nmap, wireshark, traceroute, and PRTG.
Knowledge of wire-line and wireless communications technologies and standards, including fiber optics, T1, DS-3, MPLS, cellular / 5G, CDMA, TDMA, VoIP, TCP/IP, UDP, ICMP, IP networking concepts (subnetting, routing, etc.) Cisco, and Nortel. Ability to manage all phases of network installation and administration; to research and document communications technologies, topologies and trends; and to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with internal and external customers. This position requires the ability to travel statewide, sometimes overnight to perform cabling work. Experience with Comdial, VoIP and PBX phone systems. Experience with client wiring contracts, state procurement guidelines for network cabling services, as well as managing, preparing job specs and performing overall inspections of work performed by a state hired SWAM vendor are desired.
