Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
*Support customers and distribution centers leading the dispatch operations of various commodities from vendors to distribution centers and our distribution centers to customers ensuring on-time delivery.
*Coordinate tactical plans with strategic planning and budget consideration. Prepare detailed period reports for management and accounting. Achieve budgeted expense – achieve key performance metrics.
*Provide primary point of contact with customer service and on-road support.
*Manage daily and weekly planning, coordinating transportation resources and service with distribution operations and customer service.
*Evaluate transportation exempt and non-exempt staff members including to provide direction and guidance while coaching all associates to meet required accuracy goals within the department. This may be achieved thru education, training, and associate involvement in idea generation and progressive discipline.
*Manage day to day operations thru effective workload balancing with the goal of reducing fluctuations in the end of day between departments.
*Coaching and guiding all associates to meet the required productivity goals within the department.
*Demonstrate the ability to identify root causes related to operational inefficiencies to facilitate effective problem solving. Make good decisions based on a mixture of analysis, experience, and good judgement. Contributes innovative and effective suggestions for improving work. Models a positive approach and send of urgency when dealing with problems. Challenge the status quo to acknowledge the need for change.
*Partnering with Human Resources and through consistent interactions with our associates, work to build trust and build relationships with the goal of improved associate relations and a more positive work environment.
*Examine and investigate minor vehicle and industrial accidents.
*Train, develop and motivate staff members in effort to improve present performance and prepare them for future responsibilities.
*Maintain disciplinary standards and recommend and execute disciplinary action as warranted by company policy for staff and contractual obligations of collective bargaining agreement for drivers.
*Interview and assist in the selection of qualified candidates for driver, supervisory and clerical positions in transportation.
*Assist the support/systems groups as warranted. Plan and prepare data for the systems operators to use as an aid for special projects and informational purposes.
*Maintain positive working relationship with union officials while ensuring business needs are met.
*Create SOP and training for TOS's and plan assistants.
*Oversee routing process for both perishable and grocery and provide support as needed.
*Be proficient in all operating systems: YMS, CAMS and Samsara systems
*Research new delivery areas to support expansion plan along with back haul locations and new business opportunities.
*Participate in arbitration hearings, grievance process, first step labor relations and work method meetings. Maintain contract regulations and policy.
*Interview and arrange to road test all driver candidates. Monitor DOT requirements and examine and approve DOT certificates.
*Serve as first-step decision-maker for union grievances.
Qualifications (the following are preferred or desired unless specifically stated):
*Education (Minimum Needed): Associates/Business degree preferred.
*Experience (Minimum Needed): Seven to ten years of progressive responsibility in transportation.
*Specialized knowledge needed for performance of job: DOT regulations.

Above-average computer skills, knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Must be able to carry-out tasks with minimal supervision
