General Summary:
The Manufacturing Tooling Engineer is responsible for developing and implementing production tooling design and fabrication plans/work orders. May assist in tooling development and production of tooling, fixtures, and machinery. This role will coordinate with other departments, outside organizations, customers, and suppliers, to ensure projects complete on time, at the expected quality level and at the lowest cost. The Manufacturing Tooling Engineer will also recommend and implement continuous improvement ideas. This may include working from engineering design documents, specifications, prototypes and/or change orders to determine specific tooling needs or process improvements.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage the implementation of production tooling
- Assist in coordination of the manufacturing launch of new/revised tooling
- Supports work specific to Production Engineering Tooling Department
- Prepare and maintain relevant documentation and work orders within SAP for the design and procurement of production tooling
- Develop and maintain department metrics
- Coordinate efforts with relevant Production Engineering team members to resolve any tooling related issues in a timely manner
- Participate in tooling design projects and may coordinate tasks/procedures with other Production Engineering team members
- Conduct RCCA for tooling improvement, defects and discrepancies, record and evaluate data and report findings
- Work with engineers and other personnel on continuous improvement projects as required
- Leads overall project, including budgets and outside suppliers and contractors
- Provide technical support and assistance with the development and improvement of tooling
- Present Tooling Design package to tooling fab team and assist in implementing any discrepancies before placement into service
- Review Tooling designs and develop fabrication plans
- Support Manufacturing Engineers during Tooling first run process, document results
- Create and/or modify Tooling procedural documents as necessary for improvement
- Work with ME's to establish build plan around needed tooling for future projects
- Promote and contribute to overall team environment
- Any other duties assigned by management
Education, Work Experience, Certification and/or Licensure:
- Bachelor of Science degree in electrical, mechanical, aerospace engineering or other closely related technical field is preferred
- In lieu of degree, minimum 5 years Manufacturing Engineering related experience including mechanical and/or composite, systems assembly, and machining experience.
- Machining/Fabrication experience a plus
- Strong Knowledge of industry standards, processes and specifications related to aircraft
- Strong communication skills
- Basic CATIA V5 experience is a plus
- Basic knowledge of design/drafting practices
- Basic to intermediate level GD&T proficiency in reading/understanding engineering drawings
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Strong analytical skills and a critical thinker
- Ability to read and interpret 2D and 3D Drawings for manufacturing designs and specifications
- Teamcenter Manufacturing Product structure experience a plus
- Experience with managing projects and creating justifications a plus
- The employee may be asked to participate in activities to enhance and support HACI production teamwork, and provide an environment for all team members to participate in continuous improvement
- Excellent problem solving skills and the ability to work in a diverse environment
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, experience utilizing tools such as SAP, MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Project)Employee must have ability to work independently and multitask with a strong work ethic
- Time management and prioritization of assignments
- Working knowledge of aircraft assembly, sequencing and manufacturing flow
Physical Requirements:
- Incumbents may be routinely exposed to equipment operational noise heat-cold-dust, and/or aircraft equipment, parts, or fuel odors.
- Incumbents may be required to stand, sit, squat, walk, bend, climb ladders, move, reach, or stretch for prolonged time periods with no restrictions, as required by job duties.
- Work in a safe and professional manner while adhering to all regulatory requirements (FAA, OSHA, DOT, EPA, State, and Federal regulations, etc.).
- Read, hear, speak, and see with no restrictions, as required by job duties.
- Comprehend and adhere to management directions and/or safety instructions with no restrictions.
- Effectively communicate in Business English language.
- Pull, push, carry, lift, or move items up to 10 lbs. throughout the work shift without assistance, as required by job duties.
- Pull, push, carry, lift or move materials/people/items/equipment weighing up to 50lbs or more during the work shift, with the use of Company provided “reach assistance technology” or “movement assist technology” (fork-lifts, pallet jacks, pulleys, dolly’s, robotics reach equipment, people movers etc.), as required by job duties.
