Data Center Rack Engineer – Because “Rackstar” Wasn’t Available
Location: Round Rock, TX
Job Type: Full-time | On-site
About the Role:
Are you a genius at organizing server racks but your closet is a disaster? Do you have an unnatural obsession with cable management, cooling systems, and power distribution? Well, it’s time to turn that obsession into a paycheck! We’re looking for a Data Center Rack Engineer who thrives in the world of tech and tidy. Your mission (should you choose to accept it) is to ensure our partner's data center racks are performing at their peak, not a wire out of place!
What You'll Be Doing (Besides Racking Up Wins):
- Rack Layout Mastermind: Plan and design server rack layouts based on space optimization, airflow management, and power distribution. If you’ve ever dreamt of engineering the perfect rack, this is your moment to shine!
- Hardware Whiz: Configure servers, switches, routers, and other network devices in racks with military precision.
- Cable Management Extraordinaire: Implement and maintain cable management systems that will make your colleagues jealous of your organizational skills.
- Power Guru: Assess and manage power distribution within racks, ensuring components get the juice they need without risking outages. Bonus: knowing how to keep things redundant and outage-free.
- Cool Operator: Ensure optimal cooling solutions are in place because nobody likes a server room meltdown. You’ll collaborate with our clients to maintain the right climate.
- Document Like a Pro: Maintain detailed records of rack configurations, hardware, power usage, and other data that keeps everything running smoothly.
- Stay on Top of the Game: You’re the go-to person for proposing infrastructure improvements—no idea is too big or small!
Required Skills:
- Intermediate to Advanced Server Knowledge: You know your way around server hardware, networking equipment, and data center operations. You can explain TIA-942 guidelines like it's second nature.
- CAD Design Expertise: Show us your best layouts using CAD. We’re talking a minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience.
- Power Proficiency: A solid understanding of power management principles in a data center environment. Extra points if you know your way around redundancy setups.
- Thermal Management: Keeping cool under pressure – literally. You know the ins and outs of thermal management, at both the rack and data center levels.
- Superb Attention to Detail: You notice when something’s off, and it bugs you until it’s perfect.
- Communication Skills: You’ll be working cross-functionally and occasionally with clients, so it’s crucial that you can explain complex issues in a way that makes sense to the rest of us.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, IT, computer science, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 3-5 years of experience designing, configuring, and maintaining server racks in data center environments.
- Bonus Points for certifications like CompTIA Server+, Cisco CCNA, or BICSI Installer.
- Experience with virtualization technologies like VMware or Hyper-V, and scripting languages like Python or PowerShell is a plus.
Perks of the Job:
- Competitive salary and bonuses.
- Comprehensive benefits including health, dental, vision, and life insurance.
- 401K matching, short/long-term disability, and more!
- Opportunities for growth within a forward-thinking team that values innovation.
If your idea of a good time involves server racks, power distribution, and cables that stay organized, apply now! This is your chance to show off your skills and make an impact in an environment that takes server rack engineering seriously (but with a good sense of humor).
