POSITION SUMMARY:
The National Institutes of Health seeks a dedicated Laboratory Technician to join the Laboratory of Malaria Immunology and Vaccinology (LMIV), Division of Intramural Research (DIR). The successful candidate will assist in developing novel conjugation methods, perform protein purification and modification, and characterize conjugated proteins to improve the immunogenicity of malaria vaccine targets. The role involves conducting small-scale conjugations, documenting research protocols, analyzing vaccine conjugated products using various techniques, and collaborating with internal and external researchers. Strong documentation and communication skills are essential in this team-oriented environment focused on malaria vaccine discovery and research.
TASKS. The contractor shall:
- Perform conjugations of lab-owned molecules according to established protocols.
- Assist in developing novel conjugation methods to enhance immunogenicity of malaria protein targets.
- Characterize conjugated proteins using analytical methods to document biophysical and biochemical characteristics.
- Conduct small-scale conjugations to study malaria vaccines for preclinical models.
- Write and record protocols based on small-scale conjugation research projects.
- Analyze malaria vaccine conjugated products using techniques such as UV/VIS spectrometry, AKTA, HPLC, UPLC, MALS, and SDS-PAGE.
- Organize laboratory data for publishing manuscripts, slides, posters, and reports.
- Provide support to other laboratory staff on research projects and techniques.
- Collaborate with external industry and academic partners to apply research results.
- Assist in creating new research protocols.
REQUIREMENTS. The contractor must have:
- Bachelor’s degree in a science-related field with at least five (5) years of laboratory experience in conjugation research using malaria proteins.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in protein modification, chemistry, assay design, purification, and characterization.
- Interest in malaria vaccine discovery and research.
- Excellent documentation and communication skills.
- Basic computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office suite.
