Sr. Systems Engineer – Workplace Engineering
The Systems Engineer serves as a Subject Matter Expert in a complex array of solutions. An ideal candidate will exhibit strong communications skills, be self-motivated, adaptable, and dependable. This individual will play a critical role in engineering and supporting Global Workplace Services as a technical resource, with the primary responsibility to design, implement, and maintain Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) solutions using Microsoft Azure technologies. They will contribute in resolving complex issues and providing input for decisions on more complex, non-routine service requests with limited to moderate risk. This role will be called upon can make contributions into research, analysis, design, creation, and implementation of systems to meet current and future user requirements. This individual will collaborate on multiple projects to ensure for successful completion.
CANDIDATE PROFILE:
Education and Experience:
Required:
- Undergraduate degree in an engineering or computer science discipline and/or equivalent experience/certification
- 7+ years' experience in information technology including:
- 5+ years' experience implementing cloud based SAAS/DAAS solutions and virtualization platforms and technologies.
- 3+ years' experience in automation around infrastructure provisioning using scripting and automation technologies.
- 5+ years of PowerShell scripting and PowerCLI or other scripting language.
- 5+ Proven experience in designing, implementing, and supporting Azure VDI solutions. (AVD/W365)
Other Required Capabilities:
- Hands-on experience with Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) and Windows Virtual Desktop (WVD/W365).
- Strong knowledge of Azure services, networking, and Windows operating systems
- Strong understanding of the Virtual Desktop Infrastructure, and Cloud computing solutions
- Strong technical documentation skills that can be used to turn over product to operation teams.
- Proficiency in scripting and automation tools. PowerShell, Nerdio, Intune
- Configure profile storage solutions to optimize performance and user data management.
- Implement and manage user profile solutions to provide a consistent and personalized experience for virtual desktop users.
- Develop and maintain automation scripts (e.g., PowerShell) to streamline VDI deployment, configuration, and management processes.
- Implement and manage security controls, access policies, and encryption mechanisms for VDI environments
- Strong understanding of the security controls, access policies, and encryption mechanisms for VDI environments
- Ability to help lead the implementation and deployment of Azure VDI/W365 solutions according to best practices
Preferred:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for a wide range of audiences including executives, business stakeholders and IT teams
- Demonstrated ability to perform independently as a member of a team and through cross functional initiatives
- 2+ years with Agile and Design Thinking
- Proved ability to create and maintain detailed documentation for VDI configurations, processes, and troubleshooting procedures.
- Strong attention to detail with an ability to operate effectively across multiple priorities.
- Strong passion for technology and the drive to learn new technology
- Strong understanding of the software development life cycle (SDLC)
- Experience in recommendations for improvements and enhancements to the VDI environment based on emerging technologies.
- Demonstrated ability to assess customer/client needs, creatively approach solutions, decide, and influence appropriate courses of action.
- Proven ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment
- Experience in requirements analysis/generation and developing systems architectures
- Experience as a system engineer in programs that encompass systems architecture, requirements analysis, design, production, integration, test, and transition into operations
- Proficiency in Visio, Word, Excel, PowerPoint
CORE WORK ACTIVITIES:
- Provides engineering, oversight, governance, and tactical direction related to the cloud and workplace services that are required to enable the delivery of IT services
- Provides input to the overall architecture, operational governance model
- Research, designs, and tests components that are standards based, high performing, highly available, and secure in delivering the required business functionality
- Educates internal and external users on the technologies to continually improve the knowledge and skill-base of the organization on how to operate and support the technology services
- Participates in the evaluation and selection of service products
- Supports analysis of the current environment to detect critical deficiencies and designs solutions for improvement
- Utilizes capacity modeling to ensure systems have the necessary space and resources to perform the business strategy and goals.
- Utilizes capability modeling to align systems strategy and planning with business strategy and goals
- Consults with project teams to identify when it is necessary to modify services to accommodate project needs
- Supports, implements, and promotes standard configuration and change management, processes and practices
- Develop test plans, implementation plans, and project timelines for assigned projects
- Leads Peer Design Reviews and Design Thinking sessions
Delivering Technology:
- Performs quantitative and qualitative analyses for service design processes and projects.
- Participates with the Service Delivery and Transition teams in planning and coordinating implementation, reviewing quality control of systems functional design, usability, functionality, and implementation.
- Coordinates with appropriate IT and vendor relation teams.
- Acts as a 4th level of support to cloud and workplace products and platforms.
- Provides early warning to leadership regarding degraded or missed service levels
IT Governance:
- Follows all defined standards and processes (i.e. IT Governance, SM&G, Architecture, etc.), and provides input for improvements to the appropriate process owners as needed
- Maintains a proper balance between business and operational risk
- Follows the defined project management standards and process
Managing Work, Projects, and Policies:
- Coordinates and implements work and projects as assigned.
- Complies with Federal and State laws applying to procedures.
- Generates and provides accurate and timely results in the form of reports, presentations, etc.
- Analyzes information and evaluates results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
- Manages the flow of questions and directs questions.
Supporting Operations:
- Works with team to put sustainable work processes and systems in place that support the execution of the strategy.
- Establishes and maintains complete and up-to-date information to ensure accurate reporting.
