Safety Specialist (onsite)
Sphere 3 Environmental is seeking a safety specialist for its Longview, Texas environmental consulting office. We are looking for a candidate with a passion for maintaining the safety of our team and contributing to the successful implementation of our consulting services.
What you’ll do
- Develop safety-related policies and procedures.
- Conduct safety analyses on specific jobs where required.
- Provide training and resources to employees to enhance EHS awareness and practices.
- Industrial Hygiene principles and techniques involved in Hearing conservation, Silica, Hydrogen Sulfide as examples.
- Perform job site inspections to identify, document and recommend mitigation of hazardous/potentially hazardous conditions and verify correction actions have been completed.
- Manage drug and alcohol testing programs.
- Coordinate and participate in investigations for injuries, near miss incidents and property damage incidents.
- Serve as primary liaison with physicians. Coordinate limited duty and temporary assignments.
- Work closely with workers’ compensation insurer to provide timely compensation and timely and adequate medical care to injured employees.
- Coordinate ordering, maintenance, and distribution of personal safety equipment to employees, ensuring related records are maintained.
- Management of company fleet vehicles.
- Accompany third party representatives (e.g. OSHA, Workers' Compensation, Clients, etc.) on inspections; ensure corrective action on violations.

- When not working on safety assignments, you will have the opportunity to assist staff with a variety of environmental consulting project activities.
Required Qualifications
- Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Safety, or a related field of study. 7+Years of safety management experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
- OSHA 30 and 510 certifications required.
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations and hazard recognition, record keeping and injury management skills.
Desired Qualifications
- Preferred certifications include Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Safety Management Specialist (SMS) Construction Health, Safety Technician (CHST).
- OSHA 500 preferred.
- Experience with implementation of safety programs for environmental surveys/investigations at oil and natural gas exploration and pipeline facilities is preferred.
- Experience conducting a variety of environmental assessments.
- Professional communications skills verbally as well as in written format.
- Working knowledge of computers including experience with Microsoft Word and Excel and ability to quickly learn and implement a variety of safety reporting and tracking software.
- Strong organizational and time management skill and excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must be detail oriented with the ability to recognize hazards and provide solutions to mitigate safety incidents for a variety of work locations and activities.
- Able to interact professionally with all levels of management and client representatives while simultaneously manage a diversified workload and challenging situations efficiently and effectively.
- Ability to freely access all points of a project site in wide-ranging climates and environments.
