We are seeking an experienced Controls Project Engineer to lead controls engineering projects, from initial design through installation, for cutting-edge automation systems.
Job Summary:
In this role, you’ll initially support active projects before transitioning to managing projects directly. As the lead for controls engineering projects, you will handle everything from project kickoff to installation, ensuring smooth collaboration between cross-functional teams and seamless customer interaction. This role involves travel to customer sites for equipment installation and troubleshooting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and oversee electrical control systems for new equipment, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to maintain project timelines and meet critical milestones.
- Work with the engineering team to ensure hardware, software designs, and commissioning stay within budget.
- Maintain project task lists, open items reports, and design documentation.
- Lead controls engineering processes from start to finish, ensuring alignment with project plans.
- Program and troubleshoot PLC-based equipment and HMI (Human Machine Interface) systems.
- Assist customers and technicians in resolving equipment issues during installation.
- Conduct end-user training on equipment operation and functionality.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering preferred; mechatronics degrees will also be considered.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Controls Engineer.
- Knowledge of industry standards such as NEC/NFPA, OSHA, and ANSI.
- Strong understanding of electrical circuits, schematic reading, and troubleshooting.
- Proficiency in electrical CAD systems (AutoCAD Electrical, ePLAN).
- Experience with computer programming languages such as VB, C/C++, or C#.
- Expertise in Rockwell Logix 5000 and Siemens S7-1500 family processors.
- Strong skills in PLC programming using ladder and structured text.
- Experience programming HMIs.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and other related applications.
- Willingness to travel approximately 30%, both domestically and internationally.
