Director of Legal Affairs & Compliance
We are seeking a highly experienced Director of Legal Affairs & Compliance to lead our client's Legal team. This role is responsible for providing strategic direction and oversight of legal matters across various corporate, commercial, employment, intellectual property, and compliance areas.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage a team of Corporate Counsel and Analysts, providing guidance on a broad range of legal matters, including corporate, commercial, employment, intellectual property, and antitrust issues.
- Develop and implement legal strategies to support business initiatives and manage risk, ensuring the organization adheres to all relevant regulations and legal requirements.
- Draft, review, negotiate, and advise on contracts and agreements to support commercial activities, ensuring compliance with applicable laws in all relevant territories.
- Manage corporate entity compliance and governance, ensuring the organization remains compliant with regulations both domestically and internationally.
- Provide timely communication and updates to executives on legal issues, risks, and developments.
- Oversee the management of intellectual property rights, patents, and trade secrets, supporting product development teams to protect the organization’s intellectual property.
- Serve as a key advisor on corporate governance, employment law, product liability, antitrust, and litigation matters.
- Administer and monitor compliance training and policy updates across the organization, ensuring all members are informed and compliant with the latest regulations.
- Manage and coordinate with outside counsel to optimize cost-effectiveness and efficiency of legal services.
- Oversee litigation management to mitigate legal risks to the organization.
Required Qualifications:
- Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school.
- Licensed and in good standing to practice law within the United States.
- Minimum of ten years of experience as an attorney, including substantial corporate law experience.
- At least seven years of supervisory experience in a legal setting.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Admission to practice law in the state of Michigan is strongly preferred.
- Experience working in-house for at least ten years.
- Fifteen years of legal experience, including deep expertise in corporate governance, product liability, antitrust, employment, contract, and litigation laws.
- Proven experience in developing legal team strategies and building effective legal teams.
