Job Description
Signet Maritime Corporation has an opening for a Port Captain. The successful candidate must be self-motivated, have an excellent driving record, advanced computer skills and a bachelor’s degree. A USCG License and Maritime tugboat experience is preferred.
Duties and Responsibilities
Reports to the Fleet / Operations Manager and is responsible for:
- Supervise/manage daily vessel operations with crew management, crew changes, and rotational travel.
- Strengthen current customer loyalty by enhancing the service provided, utilizing expertise to further develop new business with both current and potential customers.
- Recruit and hire marine employees.
- Schedule vessels for upcoming work to meet current and future customer needs.
- Maintain reporting of up-to-date positions of all present/future vessel arrivals.
- Act as general liaison between the crews and shore support staff.
- Determine vessel work capabilities.
- Manage inventory of vessel cordage including tow wires, pendants, ground tackle, and lines.
- Maintain close contact in day-to-day operations with customer operations support team.
- Handle personnel claims of crew.
- Ensure good order and discipline of crews.
- Assist with compliance of applicable environmental laws, rules and regulations. Work closely with the HSSEQ Department to implement policy.
- Assist with the USCG Facility and Vessel Security Plans and ensure the company and all vessels operate in accordance with applicable security-related federal and local laws in coordination with the HSSEQ Department.
- Assist with vessel operations to ensure compliance with safety policies and procedures, applicable CFR’s, USCG Regulations, EPA, TGLO and other regulatory agencies as required.
- Complete internal audits and supervisor’s inspections.
- Create and maintain a safety culture throughout the organization;
- Make recommendations to the Operations Manager to improve processes based on day-to-day observation of operations.
- Coordinate with the Port Engineer to ensure vessels are serviced, maintained and records are kept up-to-date in respect to hull, machinery and technical matters.
- Assist Operations Manager with special projects by interacting with customers and outside vendors, performing cost analysis estimates, preparing schedules.
- Assist Operations Manager in preparing employee performance appraisal reports;
- Interface with vessel crews and customers with the utmost regard for professionalism and confidentiality;
- Participate in customer and business development meetings.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- A valid driver’s license and good driving record is required.
- Must have a current TWIC or be able to obtain one.
- Must have experience as a deck officer
- Must be able to travel (to assist in project management) up to 10% of the time.
- An active USCG License is preferred.
- Operational Experience preferred.
