I'm recruiting for a Project Engineer and our Client is part of a global organization. They are an International EPC specializing predominantly in Mineral Processing and Hydrogen Storage. In particular, they are heavily involved with Lithium extraction and processing and creating a 'battery ready' product. They currently work with some of the industry leaders who use Lithium in their products. They are now looking to expand their US office in Houston.
This position will be a 'project hire' for 6 months with a possibility of being extended or going permanent.
MAIN PURPOSES OF THE ROLE
With an emphasis in engineering design support and coordination of vendors and contractors, the Project Engineer role revolves around assisting the Project Manager (and Project Team) in determining priorities, meeting strict deadlines and budget demands while having the ability to work under pressure with minimal supervision. Knowledge and application of Project Specific processes and systems is essential.
RELEVANT QUALIFICATIONS, COMPETENCIES, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Structural or Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent (Essential)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills (English – Essential)
- Further training/seminars in project management, and/or contracts management
- Experience in the minerals processing or oil/gas industry with on-site works during construction or commissioning.
- Possess high level of analytical ability used to solve complex problems.
- Ability to read and interpret design drawings, schematics and other engineering drawings.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office including Outlook and Excel and in the use of scheduling tools – Primavera preferred, but at a minimum MS Project.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Develop detailed scopes of work for contractor pricing and proposals, ensuring all aspects of the design are clearly defined and aligned with the FEL-3 study objectives.
- Interface with contractors and vendors to gather accurate pricing information, clarify technical requirements, and ensure alignment with project specifications and CAPEX and OPEX rollups.
- Coordinate with the procurement team to develop and manage a strategic sourcing plan for equipment and services specific to lithium refinery processes.
- Prepare and review technical bid packages for contractors, ensuring they contain all necessary information for accurate pricing and execution planning.
- Analyze and evaluate contractor proposals, providing technical input to support the selection process and contract negotiations.
- Collaborate with the project team to develop a comprehensive capital cost estimate for the lithium refinery, per FEL-3 standard accuracy.
- Identify and assess potential risks and opportunities that may impact the project cost and schedule, incorporating these into the capital cost estimate.
- Participate in value engineering sessions to optimize design and reduce costs without compromising project objectives or quality.
- Coordinate with various disciplines (e.g., process, mechanical, electrical) to ensure interdisciplinary collaboration and integration in the FEL-3 study deliverables.
- Prepare and present regular progress reports on the FEL-3 study, including updates on scope development, contractor engagement, and cost estimation.
- Assist in the development of the contracting strategy for the execution phase of the project, considering factors such as risk allocation and project delivery methods.
- Ensure that all FEL-3 study deliverables meet the required quality standards and are suitable for supporting the final investment decision.
