Field Engineering Technical Analyst
Contract Duration: Till 10/31/2025, with a high possibility of extension
Number of Open Positions: 9 (various levels)
Location: The final location will be determined during the interview process, based on proximity to planned construction sites. Candidates are needed in the following regions:
Northeast Region: 1 candidate (Flint, Saginaw, Bay City, or Midland)
Southeast Region: 2 candidates (Livonia, Royal Oak, or Macomb)
Southwest Region: 1 candidate (Lansing, Kalamazoo, or Jackson)
Central Region: 2 candidates (Grand Rapids, Holland, or Muskegon)
Western Region: 2 candidates (Traverse City or Cadillac)
Upper Peninsula Region: 1 candidate (Marquette or Escanaba)
Role Overview:
As an Engineering Technical Analyst, you will play a key role in supporting gas construction projects, particularly large gas distribution replacement projects. You will collaborate closely with Operations and construction teams, contributing to moderately complex projects and ensuring seamless execution according to the project plan. Your role will include the use of advanced equipment and technologies to verify positions and document in-field changes during the construction process.
You will directly support field-based construction teams, gathering as-installed gas asset information through GPS technology, and managing relevant data using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) applications. Reporting to the Contractor Oversight Liaison, you will work in tandem with Engineering personnel assigned to major gas distribution construction projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leverage GPS and GIS Technologies: Collect and record as-installed asset information on construction projects, ensuring accurate records development.
- Support Complex Projects: Assist construction teams with positional verification and resolution of construction concerns where detailed spatial relationships are critical.
- Documentation and Process Development: Establish and maintain processes for managing system integrations, including hardware, applications, protocols, point lists, and revision control for GIS/GPS technologies.
- Engage with Stakeholders: Participate in pre-construction meetings, technology demonstrations, and operating reviews, offering valuable insights.
- Travel Requirements: Travel to job sites and attend project meetings as necessary, with frequency dependent on location.
- Flexibility: Willingness to work additional hours as required to meet project deadlines and business needs.
- Additional Duties: Perform other responsibilities as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Technical Expertise: Strong understanding of construction, design, and record development for natural gas distribution systems. Ability to read construction prints and knowledge of safety protocols and regulatory requirements.
- Project Coordination: Proven ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
- Strong Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present ideas clearly in meetings and reports.
- Proficiency in GPS & GIS Systems: Hands-on experience with GPS antenna hardware/software and GIS platforms, including ESRI ArcGIS Pro, ArcMap, ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Online, and Field Maps.
- Surveying Knowledge: Familiarity with surveying control practices to support accurate data collection.
- Team Player: Capable of working collaboratively in team environments, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Natural Gas Systems Familiarity: Understanding of natural gas distribution principles and operational workflows.
- Microsoft Office Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams).
