Overview:
The NIH Clinical Core Lab is at the forefront of cutting-edge aging studies, contributing to advancements in the field through meticulous sample management, document control, and innovative research practices. We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented (Research Laboratory Technician) to join our dynamic team
Duties:
- Independently perform clinical laboratory research protocols, including quality control procedures, to process human specimens for the National Institute on Aging’s Clinical Research Studies.
- Validate test results, perform departmental quality control checks and audit
- Maintaining HIPAA compliance and verifying proper shipment of biological samples to collaborators within and outside the institute.
- Assist with modification and upholding of SOP and CAP regulations for data input, storage, and retrieval of sample information from laboratory information systems
- Ensure all orders placed and received comply with all applicable Federal Acquisitions Regulations (FAR), were compared to various services and charges across the global market and contributed to cost-saving efforts on behalf of the core lab.
- Receive, document, process, and aliquot a variety of samples including but not limited to blood, urine, feces, and saliva according to the NIH Clinical Core Lab’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for long term storage at the NIH biorepository
- Isolate peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) using density gradient centrifugation from specimens received.
- Operates laboratory machines and instruments; and prepares specimens and equipment for use.
- Perform DNA and RNA extraction using proven techniques and cutting-edge machinery (e.g. Kingfisher Flex, Ethanol Precipitation, and QIAcube Operate and maintain a variety of routine and specialized clinical laboratory instruments and equipment used in the collection, processing, and analysis of specimens per manufacturer guidelines and corporate/departmental deadlines.
- Occasionally on request cover for other clinical research staff, i.e. perform their tasks and run their equipment.
- Performs sample management and storage.
- Complete daily inventory on all sample aliquots prepared for storage in a LIMS system or corresponding excel sheet
Specific Qualifications:
- Minimum BS degree in biology or related discipline required
- Minimum 1-2 years of related work experience is required.
- Minimum 1-2 years experience with automation platforms preferred
