Position Scope:
The Powerplant Engineer is responsible for preparing and clarifying aircraft-specific engine type repair work scopes and evaluating/predicting estimated on-wing engine operation times based on build requirements. The Powerplant Engineer is expected to perform technical advisory/guidance in the disassembly, inspection, repair, assembly, and testing of specific types of jet engines. The Powerplant Engineer must support other functions, including Repair Materials and Quality, in routine technical questions and issues.
Key Job Responsibilities:
- Develop engine repair work scopes and associated work instructions by considering all specific evaluation factors, including but not limited to service bulletins, advisories, performance requirements, and modification requirements.
- Review incoming records for work scope applicability. Ensure the execution of Service Bulletins and Airworthiness Directives to meet regulatory, customer, and OEM requirements.
- Interpret the aircraft maintenance manuals, engine shop manuals, customer requests, and other approved technical data into actions or an actionable digital format that can be completed locally and within the bounds of the Quality system.
- Partner with Production and Planning to coordinate work scopes to effectively complete engine repairs in the shop and offsite locations worldwide.
- Initiate DRs/DICAs and follow through disposition. Engage OEM Product Support Engineering and other resources to eliminate repair process constraints and ensure production workflow continues seamlessly.
- Prepare Engineering Orders to implement repairs or alterations to engines and engine components.
- Technical knowledge in both wide-body and narrow-body commercial engines. Preferred engines include CF6-80, PW4000, GE90, Trent 800, CFM56, and CF34.
- Participate in problem-solving to reach a technical solution.
- Resolve technical questions from the shop regarding the engine, work scope, tooling, consumables, configuration, and capability.
- Prepare engineering substantiation for minor repairs that have been developed.
- Analyze and develop tooling Equivalents to support shop tooling constraints.
- Work to determine and recommend alternate solutions when faced with a challenge.
- Support Operations in solving assembly, configuration, inspection, and repair problems.
- Evaluate engine performance trends and troubleshoot recommendations.
- Support Operations in troubleshooting rejected engines in a test cell.
- Demonstrate commitment to continuous improvement programs by complying with all policies and procedures, completing all required training, and supporting all applicable committee activities.
Job Requirements & Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Aerospace Engineering OR at least 15 years of direct experience in Aerospace Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) or Engine OEM (No exceptions).
- Minimum eight years of extensive experience and knowledge of one or all CF6, CFM56, CF34, GE90, and Trent 800 Engine Series.
- FAA Powerplant License preferred
- Specialized knowledge and development skills in DER Repairs
- Extensive jet engine troubleshooting experience (On-wing, Ground and Test Cell)
- Must be able to decipher Engine Condition Monitoring and Trending.
- Project & Production Management skills, highly preferred.
- Strong oral and written communication skills; strong interpersonal and leadership skills
- Intermediate/advanced skills in Microsoft Project and Excel software and skilled in quickly performing plots or timelines outlining production goals and results-driven data approaches.
- Strong focus on technical planning and proven ability to apply a high degree of integrity. Must be team-oriented.
