Job Summary:
The Electrical Control Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical control systems in an industrial environment. This role involves working with control panels, PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), HMI (Human-Machine Interface) systems, electrical wiring, and other automation equipment to ensure that all systems operate efficiently and safely.
Key Responsibilities:
- Installation and Maintenance: Install, test, and maintain electrical control systems and equipment, including wiring, control panels, and other electrical apparatus.
- Troubleshooting: Diagnose and repair electrical issues related to control systems, PLCs, motor control systems, and automation equipment.
- PLC Programming: Program, troubleshoot, and modify PLCs to support the automation needs of the company.
- HMI Systems: Integrate and maintain HMI systems for operator interfaces, ensuring that data and control signals are processed accurately.
- System Upgrades: Recommend and implement upgrades and modifications to electrical control systems to improve efficiency and performance.
- Safety Compliance: Ensure all work complies with electrical codes and safety standards, including lockout/tagout procedures.
- Documentation: Create and update documentation such as wiring diagrams, schematics, and PLC programs.
- Collaboration: Work closely with engineers, machine operators, and other technicians to ensure optimal performance of equipment.
- Preventive Maintenance: Conduct regular inspections and preventive maintenance of electrical control systems to minimize downtime.
Qualifications:
- Education:
- Associate degree or certification in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Technology, or a related field preferred.
- Experience:
- 3+ years of experience as an electrical technician, with a focus on control systems.
- Experience with PLCs (Allen Bradley, Siemens, Fanuc, etc.) and HMI systems.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficient in reading electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
- Strong understanding of PLC programming, electrical control systems, and automation equipment.
- Knowledge of safety regulations, including NEC and OSHA guidelines.
- Familiar with electrical instrumentation, sensors, relays, and control systems.
- Certifications:
- Journeyman Electrician or equivalent certification preferred.
- Other Skills:
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Must be able to stand, bend, and work in tight spaces for extended periods.
- Comfortable working in various environments, including industrial, manufacturing, and field settings.
- Travel as needed for install 20% of travel
