Job Title: Contract Senior Java Web Developer (Hybrid, Local Candidates Only)

Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Web Applications Developer to join the State of Utah's Software Applications Development Team. This is a hybrid role, focused on building mission-critical software for state agencies using the latest Agile methodologies. You will play a key role in developing and maintaining Java-based web applications, contributing to complex system functions, and ensuring the adoption of cloud computing services, particularly in the migration from Informix to PostgreSQL on AWS.
Key Responsibilities:
As a member of an Agile DevOps Team, you will:
- Participate in planning sessions to gather development requirements and estimate completion timelines.
- Use Agile methodologies to collaborate on tasks, track progress, and meet deadlines.
- Develop, test, and maintain application screens, system functionalities, and APIs while ensuring compliance with security and performance standards.
- Lead the migration from Informix to PostgreSQL on AWS, focusing on database re-platforming and cloud computing services.
- Cross-train in-house support staff for long-term maintenance of databases and systems.
- Provide database administration and support, ensuring efficient, reliable, and scalable solutions.
- Work closely with Information Analysts, System Administrators, Business Analysts, Project Managers, and other technical teams to meet project goals.
Developer Duties:
- Follow Software Development Methodology (SDM) for all development activities.
- Collaborate with the team to resolve issues and provide feedback on development challenges.
- Ensure delivered products meet functional, security, and performance requirements.
- Assist in mentoring junior developers and participating in technical discussions and decision-making processes.
Technical Requirements:
- Extensive experience in Java, Spring, Struts, Hibernate, HTML, JavaScript, and other Java-based tools and frameworks.
- Proficiency in SQL and experience with PostgreSQL and AWS cloud services.
- Hands-on experience with Agile DevOps practices, including CI/CD and development tracking tools.
- Familiarity with front-end technologies like CSS, JQuery, and Web Services.
- Strong understanding of security protocols, database connections, and intermodular microservices.
- Experience in developing mobile applications and working with emerging technologies.
- Ability to work on complex system functionalities, algorithmic calculations, and API integrations.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with large-scale, mission-critical applications for medium to large organizations (1,000+ employees).
- Direct involvement in web development for criminal justice systems is a plus.
- Experience with Informix databases, SQL, and Business Intelligence tools is highly desirable.
- Background in developing secure, scalable web applications.
Working Structure:
You will report directly to an IT Manager or IT Architect and work within an Agile Release Train (ART) structure. As a key member of the DevOps Team, you will collaborate with various technical experts to deliver high-quality software solutions.
