Job Description:
The Senior Process Engineer is responsible for process design in direct reduction plants and other technology initiatives. They provide support to process engineers and may assign work to engineers and designers without direct supervisory responsibilities. Senior Process Engineers act as discipline leads, offering technical guidance across various projects and initiatives.
Responsibilities:
- Adhere to the Code of Ethics and ISO requirements.
- Collaborate effectively with colleagues to achieve consensus on assignments, prioritizing solutions that benefit all parties.
- Develop process flow diagrams (PFDs), gas, water, and solids mass and energy balances.
- Create and oversee the issuance of Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) and equipment lists.
- Develop equipment duty specifications and assign process data for control valves and instrumentation.
- Utilize in-house software and develop new software calculations as necessary.
- Conduct and document process calculations, establish standard calculation methods, and verify calculations performed by other process engineers.
- Serve as Lead Process Engineer on projects, taking direction from project management or Chief Engineers as required.
- Review vendor and interdisciplinary documents.
- Contribute to the preparation of plant operating instructions.
- Review and develop logic diagrams in coordination with the Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) department and other disciplines for new systems and processes.
- Evaluate existing and new process designs with a focus on safety.
- Participate in and potentially lead Process Hazards Analysis (PHA) reviews, if certified.
- Assist in client training (phase 1 training), plant start-ups, and troubleshooting.
- Support proposal preparation and perform engineering man-hour estimates.
Skills/Abilities:
Required:
- Proficiency in Autodesk and Microsoft products.
- Strong chemical engineering skills and process knowledge.
- Ability to meet deadlines and deliverables.
- Excellent technical writing and interpersonal communication skills.
- Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally for extended periods.
Preferred:
- Experience with chemical process simulators (e.g., Aspen Plus).
- Certification as a Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) or HAZOP facilitator.
- Professional Engineer (PE) registration.
- Experience in industrial plant environments.
- Previous international travel experience.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering.
Minimum of 10 years' experience in an industrial or technical environment, preferably related to the steel industry or demonstrated leadership on projects.
Travel Requirements:
10% to 25% international and domestic travel based on project demands.
Physical Requirements:
Extended periods of desk work and computer use.
- Ability to navigate project sites, including climbing structures.
