Senior Construction Inspector – Jacksonville, FL
Halff is seeking a Senior Construction Inspector in Jacksonville to act as our company representative on construction sites ensuring that workmanship and materials comply with the plans and specifications.
The successful candidate will be assigned responsibility for field representation on major projects with complex features and must be capable of being assigned to isolated locations and to situations where only broad supervision is available. This position may supervise lower-graded personnel and coordinates certain phases of field representation on large complex projects. The intent of this position is to serve on Federal construction and facility improvement projects as the AE representative onsite performing Construction Quality Control Inspections. The ideal candidate is independent, reliable, strong communicator, detail orientated, and self-motivated.
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following:
- Check and verify accuracy of dimensions of structural timber truss systems or other structural elements of buildings.
- Observe work in progress to ensure that workmanship and materials used conform to specifications and contract documents.
- Maintain daily log of construction and inspection activities and complete weekly progress reports (Trip Reports).
- Interpret plans and specifications for contractor and discuss deviations from specified construction procedures to ensure compliance with regulations governing construction.
- Make and check engineering computations and conduct field tests.
- Record quantities of materials received or used during specific periods and compute estimates of work completed.
- Prepare sketches of construction installations that deviate from plans and report such changes to the Engineer of Record.
- Supervise other representatives as necessary to cover all aspects of the work and may coordinate activities of other project representatives.
- Read, understand and implement Quality Assurance/Quality Control procedures, standards and requirements.
- Use specialty equipment including Nuclear Density/Moisture gauges, concrete air meters, slump core kits, surveying and measuring equipment, and moisture testers.
- Physically capable of performing field inspections to include use (not operation) of personnel lifts and able to wear a fall protection harness and lanyard.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Eight (8) years of experience in construction inspection on vertical structural elements to include timber construction.
- Florida Driver’s License
- Ability to read and interpret contract drawings and specifications for vertical and horizontal infrastructure projects.
- Ability to have had previous access to Federal Installations (CAC Access)
- Knowledge of laboratory and field-testing methods and requirements, inspection methods and techniques, construction materials, methods and equipment and safety practices associated with construction projects
- Ability to handle contacts with field representatives of Owners Representatives, Contractors, and the public.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment in the solution of work problems with minimal direction
- Ability to organize programs and devise procedures for lower-graded personnel
- Ability to use precision measuring instruments and a general knowledge of surveying as it applies to construction layout and control
- Knowledge of mathematics involving simple formulas from geometry and trigonometry
