BW Tampa’s Healthcare Litigation Department is a growing practice team focused on the defense of medical malpractice, professional liability, and auto claims. Key areas of responsibility…
DISCOVERY: Draft discovery requests and responses for attorney review and approval. Work with clients to obtain responsive documents and redact responsive documents as needed. Follow up on discovery responses from other parties.
SUBPOENAS: Identify providers, employers, and other entities to subpoena for records. Draft notice of non-party production and proposed subpoenas. Serve subpoenas and follow up to obtain subpoenaed records.
RECORDS: Create medical chronologies summarizing medical records pertinent to plaintiff’s claims. Create spreadsheets summarizing medical bills, payments, and write-offs. Summarize other records as needed.
EXPERTS: Research and contact potential experts, and serve as retained expert liaison. Provide all needed records and depositions to experts. Research opposing experts to locate and obtain impeachment information.
EXHIBITS: Create exhibit list and manage exhibits for trial. Get exhibits ready for exhibit exchange prior to trial and submission to clerk at trial.
Ideal candidates possess…
- Paralegal Certificate, college degree, or equivalent experience
- Experience as a paralegal, legal assistant, or legal secretary (preferably litigation)
- Previous experience billing time or an understanding of billable time
- Initiative and self-motivation, and ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong organizational, prioritization, multi-tasking, and communication skills
- Keen attention to detail and ability to produce high-quality work
- Professional and interpersonal skills to interact with clients, experts, and other contacts
- Technical skills including MS Office applications
- Experience with time entry and document management systems a plus

- Personal computer and other office equipment such as telephone, typewriter, calculator, fax machine, duplicating machine, etc.
- Sitting for extended periods, standing, bending, stooping, and reaching. Occasional lifting up to 20 pounds. Manual dexterity sufficient to operate standard office machines. Range of hearing and vision sufficient to operate standard office machines and communicate with clients in person and via telephone.
