Job Description:
CNC Programmer/Machinist
Must be able to program from CAM software using 3D models.
Must be able to obtain and/or maintain a security clearance.
Must be skilled in all facets of machine shop operation.
He/she will be required to fabricate custom, precision machine parts from blueprint drawings on lathes and mills without supervision.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for completing all assigned work with a high degree of quality and professionalism.
- Responsible for directing other machinists/operators on work priorities.
- Responsible for solving and troubleshooting programming/machining/tooling issues.
- Responsible for programming CNC programs and/or reviewing other machinist programs for accuracy and efficiency.
- Responsible for staging work and tooling for machinists/operators.
- Responsible for ensuring program/machine/tooling changes are completed in accordance with documented Change Management and AS9102 First Article procedures.
- Responsible for ensuring tooling is stocked as needed, resharpened, organized, and optimized.
- Responsible for keeping several machines programmed and running simultaneously.
- Responsible for continuous improvement in all aspects of the manufacturing environment.
Fixturing and Setup:
- Ability to adapt to quick changes in schedule.
- Work effectively and efficiently to produce quality parts.
- Work in a team environment and take ownership of the position to provide the best quality product for our customers.
- Any other duties assigned as needed.
Oversees and manages all operational aspects of a (one or more) manufacturing and/or production area(s):
- Responsible for the safety of the employees, delivering quality products on time and within customer cost targets, as well as continuous improvement.
- Provides leadership direction of design and process development, production, operations, engineering, test and Quality Assurance functions.
- Manages and presents status on cost, schedule and performance for all projects within the area.
- Assesses issues and develops mitigation plans to meet productivity, quality, cost, and delivery goals.
Qualifications:
- Required: High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Preferred: Trade School or college experience.
Required Skills:
- Experience in any modern CAM software.
- Read and interpret GD&T, blueprints and related technical documents.
- Ability to properly use micrometers, verniers, and calipers.
- 5+ years' experience machining tight tolerance parts in a short run/job shop environment.
Preferred Skills:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent and 5 to 10 years of proven experience in machining detailed parts and assemblies.
- Must be proficient with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
- Must have full knowledge of working on First Article and Experimental parts and assemblies.
- Must be competent in giving accurate, time to complete estimates on both machined and sheet metal parts from just engineering drawings.
- Must have experience in prioritizing and leading all aspects of multiple aerospace & DOD structural projects simultaneously.
- Must have experience in developing manufacturing tooling, and shop aides to assist both production and proto-type tasks.
Minimum Additional Training:
- Manufacturing Skills Standard Council (MSSC) certification preferred.
Other Desired Skills:
- Required: Full command of various machining processes including milling, turning. Also, in-depth knowledge of materials including carbon steel, aluminum, tool steel, stainless steel, and plastics.
- Preferred: JobBoss ERP experience.
Physical:
- Body positions: Standing, sitting, kneeling, lifting 50+ lbs.
- Body movements: Maneuverability throughout the facility, working on a ladder.
- Body Senses: Sight and touch for safety. Ability to read drawings, instruction manuals and machine readouts and dials. Able to hear machine noises to diagnose or monitor processes and communicate with others in the company.
Mental:
- Mathematics: Addition, subtraction, fractions, and decimals. The ability to read a tape measure, micrometer, dial caliper and any other measuring device required in the machinists’ trade.
- Language: This position requires the ability to read, write and speak English to effectively communicate with leadership, co-workers, customers, and vendors.
- Reasoning: Being able to determine the importance of data and how it may (or may not) apply to client's business. Must be able to determine the most efficient, cost-effective way to produce custom machine parts.
Working Conditions:
Work will be primarily performed in a climate-controlled environment.
