Job Summary:
The Ground Under Construction Estimator is responsible for assessing the cost of construction projects related to undeveloped or partially developed land, including site preparation, grading, excavation, utility installation, and other ground infrastructure tasks. The Estimator will work closely with the construction management team, engineers, and project owners to provide detailed cost projections and ensure projects are completed within budget.
Key Responsibilities:
- Project Assessment: Review project plans, blueprints, and specifications to determine the scope of work and identify any necessary site development tasks.
- Cost Estimation: Develop detailed and accurate estimates for earthwork, grading, drainage systems, utility installations, and other site work.
- Bid Preparation: Create cost proposals for land development projects, including labor, equipment, material, and overhead costs.
- Vendor and Subcontractor Coordination: Work with subcontractors, suppliers, and vendors to obtain cost estimates for materials and services.
- Risk Analysis: Identify potential project risks, including environmental or regulatory challenges, and incorporate these into the estimate.
- Collaboration: Coordinate with project managers, engineers, architects, and other stakeholders to ensure all aspects of the project are considered in the estimate.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of estimates, revisions, and project changes.
- Budget Monitoring: Work closely with the project management team to track actual costs and compare them to estimated figures.
- Industry Research: Stay up-to-date with industry standards, pricing, and construction trends that may impact project costs.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field preferred.
- Experience:
- 3-5 years of experience in construction estimation, preferably in ground construction or site development.
- Familiarity with cost estimation software (e.g., ProEst, Sage Estimating, or similar).
- Experience in reading blueprints and technical drawings related to site work.
