Overview:
The Regional Vice President of Operations is responsible for all aspects of dealer operations for the region. The Regional VP works to align the activities of all employees employees with the TEC Vision, Mission and Values in the pursuit of operational excellence. This position also collaborates with Corporate staff and peers to provide the best customer experience possible and with an appropriate return to TEC owners. Exhibits a high standard of ethical behavior and sound judgment; recognizes and lives up to the responsibility of being a leader and role model.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure every employee has access to and understands the TEC Vision, Mission and Values. Hold Managers accountable for ensuring team is aligned with TEC Vision, Mission, and Values. Build and maintain a genuine employee passion for all of our brands (TEC, Volvo, Mack, Capacity, Wabash, Cottrell).
- Ensure every customer has exposure to TEC Vision, Mission, and Values and can see the clear link to employee activity and their overall customer experience. The customer has to experience these things for it to be part of our true brand.
- Analyze and segment each geographic market/AOR to identify TEC’s precise market opportunities, otherwise known as “micro-markets.” (Leveraging Polk or other data). Stay current on industry trends and product developments. Know the competition and their strengths/weaknesses.
- Maintain constant focus on defining, measuring, and improving the customer experience (Full cycle, end-to-end). Leverage scorecards and other appropriate workflow documentation and indicators to actively measure continuous improvement. Collaborate with Corporate and other TEC regions to continuously improve.
- Ensure that the “Profit Model,” for each of the ten revenue streams (New Trucks, Used Trucks, New Trailers, Used Trailers, Auto Transport, Parts, Service, Leasing, Collision, and F&I) is clearly defined and understood by every General Manager and Department Manager.
- Perform timely monthly detailed review of operating results with GM’s & Department Managers. Assign action items as appropriate.
- Fully engage in annual Business Plan process, developing stretch targets and coaching Managers on how to manage results.
- Understand and manage the impact of business activities on working capital (Cash, Inventory, etc.).
- Ensure that all branding, customer facing facilities, and equipment lives up to the TEC Value Proposition of PREMIUM products and services.
- Create and maintain an environment that is inspiring and energizing for nearly 110 midwest TEC employees. Excellent customer service starts with TEC Managers role modeling the behavior we want our customers to see.
- Ensure that there are adequate controls around truck/trailer/parts inventory purchasing. Maintain an accurate view of allocated flooring limits and operate within, escalating overages in advance.
- Leverage TEC Corporate Legal, Accounting, Parts, Service, IT and HR as appropriate when dealing with non-routine transactions and business events.
- Expert application of employee performance management tools including clear job descriptions, Ramp Plans, informal and formal feedback, annual compensation reviews, progressive discipline, team building events, etc. Manage regional succession planning and talent development. A significant part of this position is ensuring all employees that are willing to put the effort in have access to development tools, mentoring and a career path.
- Identify all key workflows within each of the ten major revenue streams. Evaluate effectiveness of workflows based on linkage to Mission statement, scalability, and overall impact on the customer experience. Partner with Corporate and leverage known best practices.
- Use structured problem solving techniques such as Six Sigma, Lean, or 5S to build robust, best in class processes.
- Ensure that for key processes and functions TEC has adequate cross training and redundancy.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements (DMV, OSHA, etc.) and applicable employment laws and regulations throughout organization.
- Ensure that processes and general operating conditions promote a safe work environment and culture. Partner with Environmental Health & Safety employees to perform routine and recurring evaluations.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
- 10+ years in the transportation industry. At least 7 years of Managing direct reports, including experience managing Managers.
- Outstanding team player (collaborates with others to achieve quality results).
