About the Role:
As the Mechanical (HVAC) Engineering Department Manager, you will lead the mechanical design team and oversee the successful delivery of projects from concept through construction. You will play a critical role in managing projects across commercial, educational, health care, and multifamily sectors. With a minimum of ten years of experience, you will take responsibility for ensuring that projects meet client expectations and adhere to engineering best practices.
Responsibilities:
- Developing and evaluating system concepts to determine the best design solutions for each project based on its scope.
- Creating design drawings and specifications for building mechanical systems.
- Performing systems analysis, preparing reports and cost estimates.
- Leading and coordinating efforts with architects, engineers, designers, and administrative staff.
- Engaging with clients to discuss project changes and design modifications.
- Collaborating with leadership to manage project budgets and update scopes.
- Representing the company professionally in interactions with owners, architects, vendors, and contractors.
- Training and mentoring junior staff, contributing to the firm's human resource development.
- Working closely with marketing, leadership, and business development teams.
- Performing other duties as needed to support the firm's objectives.
Qualifications:
B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution. A minimum of 10 years of relevant job-related experience. Professional Engineering License in NJ & PA (holding at least one is required, with the ability to obtain the other). LEED accreditation is desirable but not mandatory.
Required Skills:
- Proven project management experience, including client interaction and coordination with team members and code officials.
- A demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Hands-on experience in engineering, design, and mechanical code requirements, particularly for multifamily facilities such as affordable housing, student housing, and market-rate housing.
- Knowledge of energy-efficient design is a plus.
- Strong skills in document quality assurance and control.
- Field experience with project site assessments and punch lists.
- Technical writing proficiency is advantageous.
- Familiarity with ArchiCAD or AutoCAD environments.
