Job Title: Construction Material Quality Control / Quality Assurance Manager
Location: Multiple roles located in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Illinois
Job Overview:
They are looking for a skilled and motivated QA/QC manager to join their team. This role involves overseeing the testing, evaluation, and quality assurance of materials produced by the plant. This role ensures that all materials meet specified standards and regulations for construction projects.
Key Responsibilities:
Quality Assurance and Testing:
- Monitor and manage the testing of raw materials and final products.
- Conduct routine inspections, including sampling, lab testing, and on-site evaluations, to ensure compliance with relevant standards (e.g., ASTM, ACI, or local regulations).
- Implement and maintain a comprehensive quality control plan that outlines testing procedures, frequency, and reporting structures.
Process Monitoring:
- Oversee the production process to ensure the materials produced meet required specifications.
- Collaborate with production teams to adjust equipment settings, mix designs, and operational practices based on test results.
- Implement corrective actions when products do not meet specifications, including reworking materials or adjusting production processes.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Prepare and maintain detailed records of all quality control tests, procedures, and outcomes.
- Generate reports for internal and external stakeholders, including customers and regulatory bodies.
- Ensure traceability of materials, with clear documentation of batch numbers, test results, and production times.
Compliance and Regulatory Adherence:
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as industry standards.
- Stay up to date with new regulations, standards, and advancements in the quality control field.
- Liaise with external auditors or inspectors during site visits to verify compliance.
Team Management and Training:
- Lead, train, and mentor the quality control team, ensuring they are proficient in testing methods and quality standards.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement and quality within the team and plant operations.
- Collaborate with production and technical teams to provide guidance on improving quality and minimizing defects.
Problem Solving and Continuous Improvement:
- Analyze trends in test data to identify potential quality issues and areas for process improvement.
- Implement strategies for continuous improvement, reducing waste, improving consistency, and optimizing production efficiency.
- Collaborate with engineering and production departments to troubleshoot issues and propose innovative solutions to quality challenges.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
- Experience: Several years of experience in quality control within the aggregate, concrete, asphalt or construction industry.
- Certifications: Certifications from relevant industry bodies
- Technical Skills: Knowledge of concrete mix designs, aggregate testing methods, and relevant testing equipment (e.g., slump cones, sieves, compressive strength machines).
- Soft Skills: Strong leadership, analytical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills.
