The Legal Assistant provides administrative support to attorneys and paralegals, helping ensure the efficient operation of the legal department. This role involves preparing legal documents, conducting research, managing files, and maintaining communication with clients and court officials.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare and draft legal documents, correspondence, and reports.
- Schedule and coordinate meetings, appointments, and travel arrangements for attorneys.
- Answer phone calls, manage emails, and handle client communications.
- Organize and maintain physical and electronic files and records.
- Conduct legal research using various resources such as LexisNexis and Westlaw.
- Summarize and analyze legal documents, cases, and statutes.
- Assist in the preparation of case briefs and legal arguments.
- File and retrieve documents with courts and administrative agencies.
- Ensure that all documents are formatted, proofread, and properly filed according to legal standards.
- Track deadlines and ensure timely submission of legal documents.
- Serve as a liaison between attorneys, clients, and court officials.
- Gather information from clients for legal documents and case preparation.
- Maintain confidentiality and discretion in handling sensitive client information.
- Assist attorneys in preparing for trials, hearings, and depositions.
- Prepare trial notebooks, exhibits, and other case materials.
- Track case progress and keep the legal team updated on important developments.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a legal assistant or in a similar role.
- Strong understanding of legal terminology, procedures, and documentation.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and legal research tools.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
