POSITION OVERVIEW:
GeoTest provides a wide range of services for clients in both public and private development. Our services support the entire building project lifecycle, including geotechnical engineering, environmental assessments, construction special inspection and testing, and building science services. GeoTest is part of RMA Companies, a national firm, with a strong presence in the Pacific Northwest. Our group regularly services Washington State and the Portland, Oregon market. With over 30 years of local experience, GeoTest actively contributes to major development projects in the region, leveraging our five office locations and three accredited construction material laboratories.
GeoTest is seeking a Building Enclosure Inspector for our Building Science Department in the Northwest Region. This role requires a background in development and construction, along with an understanding of building methods and materials. The Building Enclosure Inspector will work in a team and independently, interacting with contractors and designers. This full-time position involves daily travel within a 100-mile radius, and occasional travel beyond 100-miles to support construction projects. We offer on-the-job training, fostering growth in Building Science and related fields
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Testing: Conduct performance testing of buildings and building components, including but not limited to air leakage (blower door) tests, infrared thermography, fenestration tests, and joint sealant tests.
- Inspection: Perform inspections of building envelope components (water/vapor/air/thermal control layers), including but not limited to vapor barriers, waterproofing, air barriers, WRB, insulation, cladding, roofing, and flashing.
- Develop and maintain a strong fundamental understanding of relevant testing standards and procedures; Ability to interpret/apply those standards to conditions found in the field.
- Perform special inspection for building framing, and other construction elements (as needed). • Generate timely reports for applicable inspections.
- Represent GeoTest in a professional manner and maintain positive relationships with clients and contractors.
- Integrate with other GeoTest departments supporting projects specifications and schedules
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
The following minimum requirements apply to this position.
- 2+ years of experience in building science, related construction and or inspection, or similar experience.
- Familiarity with building framing, sheathing, and/or roofing components. • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Profession appropriate computer skills for report generation (email, web interfaces, apps, modeling software).
- Fundamental report writing skills.
- Comfort/familiarity with basic hand and power tools.
- Ability to read and interpret construction project plans and specifications
- Experience working on large commercial construction sites.
- Experience performing multi-fan air leakage tests on large commercial buildings in accordance with ASTM E779.
- Experience performing forensic inspection relating to existing building condition or potential cause of damage.
- IIBEC credentials (RRO, REWO or other)
