Director of Solutions Engineering
Join our growing software development team in our fun and fast paced department. This individual will be working with our software and data engineering teams to manage tactical and strategic aspects of our software solutions. You'll work on challenging projects, make an impact, and grow as an engineer and a lead.
You will be responsible for managing all Cloud and Solutions Engineers focused on scalability, reliability, availability, security, and recoverability of our cloud environments (AWS and Azure). Success in this role is dependent on ability to implement and manage an effective SE strategy. This includes working to build strong, productive relationships with prospects, customers, and within the team; recruiting and onboarding new customers; and focusing on growing new business opportunities.
The successful candidate will have a track record of working with some of the world's largest enterprise accounts, ideally with expertise in the cloud vendor and security industry. Further, the ideal candidate should also be able to function as a business, information, and infrastructure architect in a pinch, at a minimum.
- Manage and be responsible for the cloud computing environment, including compute, storage, networking aspects, while following best practices in a highly regulated industry.
- Ensure the high availability, scalability, reliability, efficiency, sustainability of the cloud computing environment.
- Anticipate and provide effective technical solutions to complex business and operations problems, both proactively and as business needs arise and change.
- Provide oversight, direction and technical leadership for the overarching technology stack of the engineering organization, including cloud strategy, software architecture, and developer tools.
- Lead, grow and inspire the solutions engineering team, while building strong ownership and accountability within the team and management layer as the business and product complexity grows at rapid pace.
- Be directly responsible for establishing and implementing technical standards, processes, and software architectures.
- Develop standard operating procedures, and ensure that staff adhere to them. Enhance current procedures to improve productivity.
- Continuously review existing processes and technologies for effectiveness and efficiency and continuously evaluate, develop, and recommend new and emerging processes, technologies, and enhancements.
- Drive and champion a culture of coaching, continuous learning, and training to improve execution and remove roadblocks.
- Provide alignment from corporate goals to individual contributor goals.
- Performs other projects and duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related discipline or equivalent work experience required.
- Master's degree in computer science/engineering or MBA is highly preferred.
- Cloud service provider certification, especially in an architectural path, highly preferred (e.g. AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Azure Solutions Architect Expert).
- 8+ years of increasing experience and responsibility in a software development or solutions engineering environment.
- 3+ years of cloud service provider experience highly preferred, especially in AWS and Azure environments.
- Strong project management experience is required. Experience in a commercial environment is a plus.
- Strong web software development experience (i.e. JavaScript/TypeScript, C# .NET, Python) with increasing ownership over technical solutioning and architectures preferred.
- Must be viewed as technical visionaries and demonstrate their success in innovating solutions for customers.
- Must have experience motivating and leading a technical team that achieves a high level of performance and partnership with customers, business development, and leadership. Candidates must demonstrate their ability to problem solve in complex, ambiguous situations and build solutions that address a diversity of concerns.
- Demonstrates how they have been able to gain competence, adopt new perspectives, and build relationships that cross organizational boundaries, and, as a result, build out a web of support and contacts.
- Demonstrates an ability to build a strategic plan and deliver expected results on budget and on time is important.
- Demonstrates an ability to prioritize engagement and support in line with the Division's strategic focus is necessary.
- Candidates should be prepared to explain their vision for a high functioning solutions engineering team and how to effectively implement that vision and ensure results.
- Candidates must demonstrate strong oral and written communications as well as an ability to persuade others to a particular point of view.
