Job Title: Contracts Manager
Pay Rate: $60-$63.00/hour
Duration: 6-month contract
Location: Hybrid; San Diego, CA
RESPONSIBILITIES:
These may include but are not limited to:
- Review, negotiate, and finalize a variety of contracts, including consulting agreements, services agreements, confidentiality agreements, statements of work, change orders, and potentially other types of agreements depending on experience
- Lead the contract development process from drafting through execution, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and compliance with legal and Company standards
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including commercial, regulatory, clinical operations, finance, and business development teams, to understand contract requirements and ensure alignment with business objectives
- Guide internal colleagues in contract request process and obtain input as needed
- Provide guidance on contract matters to project managers and other operational staff, including training on contracting practices and procedures
- Review contract requests for consistency with Company’s requirements and policies and respond to requests according to current priorities
- Complete initial review and redline of contracts with escalations to attorneys as required
- Manage contract database and ensure that all contracts are properly stored, categorized, and easily accessible for future reference
- Maintain and update contract lifecycle management system and review contract records for completeness and accuracy
- Support creation of contracts by gathering and vetting required inputs, including business terms from a variety of functional owners
- Perform review of mature contracts and manage renewals and amendments
- Conduct risk assessments and propose mitigation strategies to manage contractual risks
- Maintain a comprehensive understanding of regulatory requirements and industry standards relevant to life sciences contracts
- Keep abreast of changes in law and regulations that may affect Company’s contracting practices.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Bachelor’s degree from recognized institution; a certificate from an ABA-approved paralegal program preferred
- At least 5+ years of experience in the legal department of a biotech or pharmaceutical company, with a focus on the contract review process (from drafting through execution)
- High degree of ability to use analytical reasoning, logical deduction, reading comprehension with attention to detail and the ability to think critically
- Ability to work independently and exercise judgment while efficiently managing multiple projects
- Strong sense of accountability, taking ownership of projects and success in resolving a diversity of issues
- Ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders, including colleagues, vendors, CROs, CDMOs, service providers, consultants, collaboration partners, and clinical sites in a highly professional manner
- Excellent communications skills among colleagues and outside parties
- Superior attention to detail and adaptability to new and/or evolving processes
- Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, Adobe, and DocuSign
- Ability to handle highly confidential and sensitive information appropriately
- Possession of a high level of professionalism and interpersonal skills in the performance of duties.
