The Facility - VA North Texas Health Care System Mental Health Service VANTHCS MHS has a full range of mental health services including general adult psychiatry, geriatrics, psychosomatic medicine, substance abuse sub-specialty services, trauma services, psychosocial rehabilitation and recovery programs, comprehensive homeless programs, peer support services, opiate replacement programs, Intensive Community Mental Health Recovery (ICMHR), vocational rehabilitation programs, domiciliary based programs and inpatient services. There is ongoing active research in addiction psychiatry, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, mood disorders, and homelessness. Clinical training programs exist for medical students, psychiatry residents and fellows, clinical psychologists, social workers and nurses. VA North Texas Health Care System has an active relationship with the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center as our primary affiliate, as well as other local teaching institutions.
Duties and Responsibilities Core responsibilities include providing comprehensive psychiatric consultation to inpatient medical units and the Emergency Department.
- Incumbent(s) must be skilled in general, psychosomatic and emergency psychiatry.
- He/she should be competent in the management of individuals with a broad range of clinical problems, including but not limited to post-traumatic stress disorder, mood, anxiety and psychotic disorders, substance use disorders, as well as delirium and other psychiatric presentations of medical illness.
- Contractor shall provide consultative clinical service including but not limited to treatment recommendations to Residents, Interns and Medical Students. All consultative service and clinical recommendations to trainees shall be performed by a board-certified Psychiatrist.
- The incumbent will serve as a member of a multidisciplinary mental health team and should be competent in collaborating with colleagues of other specialties. ABPN board certification is required for this position as the incumbent will provide consultative care and clinical recommendations to UT Southwestern Medical Center trainees.
Qualifications/Requirements Contractor personnel shall be proficient in the clinical activities normally performed by psychiatric physicians, as supported and evidenced by state licensure, completion of an approved residency, and ABPN Board Certification in Psychiatry. All licenses held by the personnel working on this contract shall be full and unrestricted licenses. Personnel shall be technically proficient in the skills necessary to fulfill the government's requirements, including the ability to speak, understand, read and write English fluently. Contract staff and/or agency will provide documents as needed to verify current and ongoing competency, skills, certification and/or licensure related to the provision of care, treatment and/or services performed.
Continuing Medical Education (CME)/ Certified Education Unit (CEU) Requirements:
- The Contractor shall meet all VA educational requirements. All mandatory courses must be completed by each contractor by September 30th of each fiscal year or as mandated by the Education Service, Quality Management or Service Chief. Contract Providers shall maintain CME and review pertinent journals, books and publications. Health care providers registered or certified by national/medical associations shall continue to meet the minimum standards for CME to remain current. CME hours shall be reported to the credentialing office for tracking by the Chief of Staff. Failure to provide will result in loss of privileges.
- Preferred Experience: Buprenorphine Certification is highly encouraged in order to meet the duties required for this position, as well as experience with methadone and clozapine prescribing. Consult Liaison fellowship and experience is also preferred.
Additional Details - Location - Services will be provided onsite at VANTHCS MHS, 4500 S. Lancaster Road, Dallas TX 75216
- Schedule - Possible schedules include Monday-Friday Saturday and Sunday Holidays , and will be assigned by VANTHCS MHS.
- Length of Contract - Six months with an option to extend in six month increments for a maximum duration of 36 calendar months.
