The Pilot Boat Captain reports to the Marine Superintendent and Director of Operations. The Pilot Boat Captain will have overall responsibility for the safety and management of their assigned Pilot Station Boat.
Responsibilities
•Overall responsibility for the safety and management of the vessel and Union crew
•Directly supervises all Union crew members
•Manages inbound and outbound ship traffic on pilot station
•Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies,applicable laws, and the collective bargaining agreement (CBA)
•Trains and mentors Union crew and apprentice pilots
•Provides safety leadership and confirms vessel and crew compliance with companypolicies, procedures, and USCG regulations
•Works closely with the Marine Superintendent for all supplies, maintenance, and crewingneeds
•Facilitates shoreside response to vessel needs for repairs, parts, and supplies
•Additional responsibilities as directed by the Operations Department
Qualifications
•Minimum USCG License as Master Less Than 500GT Near Coastal with radarendorsement
•Minimum 10 years sailing experience
•TWIC
•Driver’s license
•Drug-free certificate
•CPR/AED first aid certification
•Excellent written & verbal communication skills
•Highest level of professionalism and dependability
•Prior experience as a Captain underway is preferred
•Knowledge of Pilot operations preferred
Schedule
The Pilot Boat Captain works a week on/week off schedule and stands a rotational 12-hour watch on their assigned Pilot Boat, which operates on pilot station located at the approaches to the Port of New York & New Jersey approximately 1.5 NM seaward of Ambrose LWB A (LLNR 34785).
Compensation and Benefits
Salary range between $150,000 - $160,000.
