Junior Packaging Engineer Contractor
Location: Austin, TX 78703
Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm, hybrid schedule, moving to full-time onsite in 2025
Pay: $30/hr
Duration: 6-months, with the potential to get extended

This role will support development and commercialization of Packaging materials and specifications of Exclusive Brand products for Exclusive Brands categories. This role will work closely with the cross functional team to ensure correct set up of packaging specifications, provide technical guidance on packaging materials, development and qualification for New Product Development and packaging related Change Requests (PCR). This role will also help support in packaging in-market improvement opportunities such as cost improvement and sustainability improvement projects by collaborating with our co-manufacturers and packaging suppliers. This role is expected to develop collaborative solutions through strong understanding of our systems, processes and continuous improvement practices.
Duties and Responsibilities:
· Support in creating the new packaging specification system for Exclusive Brands product portfolio. Manage packaging specification documentations for both existing and new packaging materials.
· Collect supporting technical information such as Packaging material specifications, certifications, and MSDS. Generate and assign all reference data to packaging specifications.
· Assure accuracy and integrity of packaging material specifications by adhering to our core values, quality, and brand standards.
· Drive continuous process improvement ideas through process and material/specification harmonization.
· Training of new packaging spec system to the end users.
· Communicate with suppliers to ensure the packaging specifications are accurate, complete, and compliant with regulatory guidelines and Companies' Quality Standards.
· Assist with technical information management.
· Provide technical guidance to the cross functional team on Packaging materials, development, and qualification for new product launches and/or supplier initiated packaging change requests.
· Identify and lead packaging in-market improvement projects by collaborating with the suppliers, product quality, sourcing, and internal regulatory teams.
Requirements and Qualifications
· Bachelor's degree in Packaging Science, Material Science, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field.
· 1-3 years' experience working in the CPG (Consumer Packaged Goods) or Packaging materials industries.
· Expertise and experience in system processes, specification systems and IT systems.
· Drive efficiency through structured change initiatives.
· Must possess the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities and deliver against rapid development timelines.
· Must be detail oriented and extremely organized.
· Must possess excellent communication skills and possess the ability to excel in cross-functional team settings.
· Must have computer proficiency and familiarity with most Microsoft Office applications, especially Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Preferences
· Cursory understanding of Packaging materials, formats and development and related business processes.
· Experience with Oracle-based Product Lifecycle Management systems or similar
· Advanced excel skills with ability to identify and drive system automation preferred
· Specification writing experience preferred
· Project management experience preferred
· Exposure to CPG industry with passion for sustainability in Packaging is a major plus.
· General understanding of Packaging development, manufacturing, and commercialization.
· Familiarity of retailer web-based specification systems would be ideal.
