Job Description: Junior/Mid Systems Engineer

What we are looking for: Systems engineers are passionate about mission critical systems deployment, management, and monitoring. Our product line covers many diverse areas such as distributed service-oriented architectures, low-latency telecommunications processing, and high availability. Each of these areas in a mission critical environment contains their own unique and difficult problems to solve. As such, a strong technical foundation coupled with the desire to learn, grow, and solve hard problems would make for a strong addition to our team.
Candidate will work within a system engineering team to collaboratively support a major customer program. The team will collectively be responsible for overseeing integration and deployment of network management software; interfacing with 3rd party data collection stream(s); establishing workflows to automate deployment, configuration, and monitoring of hardware/software systems; configuration, remote management, and troubleshooting of test/lab equipment, including root cause analysis; working with software and hardware development teams for requirements, integration, testing activities. Major Functional Areas and Description of Duties:
- Hands-on integration of software and hardware components including software installation and configuration, network configuration, and telecommunications hardware integration.
- Implements and validates IT system solutions for networking, computing, and our propriety communications equipment including conceptional, functional, and physical views.
- Develops and follows test procedures to verify system functionally and perform system debug.
- Develops and conducts factory acceptance tests, site acceptance tests, failure location and analysis.
- Creates and reviews technical documentation supporting production build (e.g., rack layouts, cable plans, system layouts, system configuration, build of materials, build plans/instructions).
- Collaborates with internal teams (e.g., program management, hardware & software development, solution architects, test engineering, field engineering, production) for total project success.
- Supports system production team to troubleshoot and solve production issues.
- Participates in on-site installations, integration, testing and maintenance activities.
- Analyzes site and contract information to determine, recommend, and plan layout for type of computers and peripheral equipment, or modifications to existing equipment and systems that will provide capability for proposed project or work load, efficient operation, and effective use of allotted space.
- Ensures adherence to industry standards, regulations, and best practices.
- May participate in remote system monitoring, maintenance, and tier 2 on call support.
Experience in the following technologies:
- Operating Systems (RHEL, Windows)
- Scripting languages (e.g., Bash, PowerShell, Perl, Python)
- Log aggregation and reporting (ELK/Opensearch, Splunk)
- Network analysis tools (Wireshark, Stablenet)
- System monitoring tools (Zabbix, SNMP)
- Virtualization (ESXi, KVM, Red Hat Virtualization)
- Data replication and storage (DBRD, NAS/SAN)
- System security management and intrusion detection tools (IdM, SSL, IPSec/VPN, SELinux, AIDE)
- Telecommunications protocols (SIP/RTP, ED-137)
- Experience in routing and networking technologies
Qualifications:
- BS in Information Technology, Information Systems, Electrical Engineering/Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience with IT systems and engineering.
- 1 to 3 years’ experience in Systems Engineering integrating, deploying, and supporting integrated hardware and software solutions in the area of networking and communications.
- Demonstrates the ability to implement and apply best-practice system engineering concepts.
- Excellent problem solving, analytical, and technical troubleshooting skills.
- Highly organized with strong written and verbal communication skills.
Special Notations or Conditions of Employment:
- Must be willing to travel up to 20% depending on project requirements.
- Customer sites for system installations, testing, on-site troubleshooting as required
- Internationally to receive equipment or technology training at company headquarters in Vienna, Austria, whenever applicable and possible
- Finger printing and job-related background check will be required
- Must be authorized to work in United States and obtain clearances to work on Government sites
