Vivid is looking for a data center engineer for a client of ours in the heart of northern Virginia's datacenter hub!
Key Responsibilities:
- Network Design and Implementation: Plan, design, and implement data center networks, including switches, routers, and firewalls.
- Monitoring and Maintenance: Monitor network performance and reliability, performing regular maintenance and updates to ensure optimal operation.
- Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve network issues, minimizing downtime and improving performance.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate documentation of network configurations, changes, and procedures.
- Collaboration: Work with other IT teams to ensure seamless integration of services and systems.
- Security: Implement and enforce security protocols to protect data center resources.
- Capacity Planning: Analyze current network usage and forecast future needs to ensure scalability.
- Upgrading Infrastructure: Plan and execute upgrades to network hardware and software as necessary.
Key Skills:
- Networking Protocols: Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, VLANs, and VPNs.
- Hardware Proficiency: Experience with network hardware from vendors like Cisco, Juniper, or Arista.
- Scripting and Automation: Familiarity with scripting languages (Python, Bash) for automating tasks.
- Monitoring Tools: Experience with network monitoring tools (e.g., Nagios, SolarWinds).
- Problem-Solving: Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills.
- Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact with cross-functional teams.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Certifications: Relevant certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, or equivalent are often preferred.
- Experience: Previous experience in data center networking or similar roles is typically required (3-5 years is common).
Work Environment:
- Primarily office-based, with time spent in data center facilities, 1-2 days per week.
- May require on-call support and flexibility for after-hours work during upgrades or incidents.
This role is critical for ensuring the reliability and efficiency of data center operations, supporting the backbone of many IT services and applications.
