Job Description
Overview
Under the general direction of the administrative/assistant director for laboratory and client services, supervise and coordinate daily functions and activities of the outreach and send out areas within the laboratories of pathology. In addition, provides active engagement in client service activities for internal and external clients including but not limited to, account management, problem resolution, quality assurance reporting, onboarding new clients, education, and training.
Key Responsibilities
- Performs all supervisory duties, including daily oversight of laboratory operations, hiring qualified personnel, performing disciplinary actions, preparing work schedules to meet the operation’s needs, developing and assigning work tasks to maximize productivity, developing and implementing training and continuing education programs, performance appraisals, ensuring equipment maintenance is performed accordingly and conducting staff meetings.
- Assists in evaluating laboratory performance and recommends, initiates and affects measures to improve services. Assists in the determination of the need for the development of new services.
- Responsible for writing, revising, and ensuring that all policies and procedures are current and comply with regulatory requirements (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments, College of American Pathologists, The Joint Commission, and others). Performs periodic inspections and observations of staff practices.
- Serves as a primary account manager for internal and external clients.
- Develops/monitors key performance indicators (KPIs) for the performance of staff and the quality of services.
- Works closely with the clinical specialist for outreach to ensure a high level of client satisfaction, accurate and appropriate billing claims, and other outreach-related concerns.
- Maintains the inventory of all consumable items and prepares monthly supply orders to ensure an adequate inventory of reagents and supplies are available when needed.
- Assists the administrative/assistant director with the preparation and management of the operating and capital expenditure budget.
- Assists in the training, teaching, and evaluating students as needed.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree required. A degree in Medical Technology or life science is preferred. An Associate’s Degree and relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree.
Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of full-time progressive laboratory experience in a hospital with demonstrated client services experience. A minimum of one (1) year of supervisory experience is preferred. Experience in a clinical laboratory with demonstrated skills and competence in leadership and organizing workflow. Solid understanding of laboratory processes and procedures, especially in the areas of outreach and send-out testing.
